I am building a machine that will have an amd ryzen rog zenith II extreme alpha mobo which will be put into a be quite! dark base pro 900 black rev.2 case.
Both the mobo and the case come with their own fan extension card (that do LEDs too) - pictures below.
I’m guessing I only need to use one, but don’t know the pros and cons of using one over the other. For example, if I use the one that comes with the case do I lose functionality in the mobo, or visa versa?
Any suggestions on which one would be best to use?
I say use the one the case comes with. It’s made and tuned for the case.
You should not lose any functionality of the motherboard if you don’t use a fan controller that comes in the box.
Maybe you will be unable to control the case lights with the motherboard software, but it’s easier to press a button on the case than trying to retrofit a controller not designed for a case into the case.
On the other hand if your goal is to only use the fan control functions - you have absolutely no reason to remove the already installed and set controller for another one.
Basically in both cases I say use the case controller. Unless there is some mad functionality in the Asus thing that isn’t in the bequiet one. And there really isn’t…
Thanks, I will give it a try with the case board - I am just waiting for one more part to do my build and am looking forward to see how this all works out.
When younare doing the pre-assembly outside the case to make sure all then parts work wire up the case controller and see if it does everything you want it to.
If not it will be easy to wire up the ROG on and see if it does everything right before putting everything in the case and having to route cables.
