Community Giveaway: IcyDock Stuff

I am interested both in the 24 and 2 bay one.

I am currently in the process of preparing for rack-mounting, I will probably build a wooden 16u rack for all my systems.

Fort the smaller I would put it into my firewall so I could minimize down time, by putting in a new SSD using cloned/copy of my OPNsense install. The drive Currently the drive is screwed into the 5.25 bay…

As for the the 24 bay one it would go into the desktop server/PC running various containers and VM’s after it been rebuilt into a server case(really expensive here…), this server would either run a generic Linux Distro system or Proxmox(currently running).

Plans for my home network

  • Build a better NAS
  • Host my portfolio page
  • Build a rack
  • Get a second firewall
  • Get punch down panels
  • Get a rack shelf for smaller stuff

Firewall specs

  • I7-3930k
  • 16gb ram
  • dual 1gb Intel NIC

Server/PC

  • I7-3930k
  • 64gb ram
  • 3x 4 port NIC (really cheap here…)
  • GTX 960 4gb

Just glad to join.

Either one would go in the new nas I’m working on now. I ordered my first pair 18 TB drives. I’m buying two each month while I work out what to use for the guts. Still tossing about between AM4, a low end Epyc or maybe even an Alder Lake cpu. So many choice and no clear answer. Either would give me a place to add some SSDs to it.

24 Bay monster or both

Would use the 2.5" bay to make a backup device that I don’t have to strap fans to the front just to keep quiet. (Drives still overheat…)

Primary use of this would be to upgrade my home nas that i mainly use for large 3d models(revit) of high rises/casinos. Secondary use would be a home data center for all of my movies.

Greetings, new user here.

I would be lying if I didn’t say I was joining this forum for the giveaway, but I’ve been eyeing this corner of the Internet ever since I found answers for some of my technical hurdles (thanks in advance, I guess :stuck_out_tongue: ).

I’m interested in the 2-bay + Slim ODD Bay. I would like to purchase something like this, but where I live (Argentina), the costs are at times prohibitively expensive and any alternate options (like StarTech) aren’t practical to get either.

While there are some productive reasons I might want this (like NAS, or Home Lab uses), the one reason I want to use it in the first place is to perform better Tech Support work.
80% of my work consists of replacing HDDs in laptops with SSDs, and while I do have a dual-bay cloning device, transfer through USB 3.0 is a bottleneck. I would use the dual-bay to speed up my work and provide better quality service.

As for the candidate machine, let’s say it’s a mish-mash of parts I have laying around. An old AM3 motherboard I rescued from the trash, AMD Phenom II X4, 8GB of RAM, a HD5450 GPU I took from a decommissioned storage array, and an ATX case and PSU which were ordered by a customer but returned.

The ODD bay will not go unused. Some customers do have collections of movies, series and music that they want ripped and stored for posterity, but lack the optical drives to do it themselves. I have my own music archives, but don’t have a lot of CDs… for now.

Anyway, TL;DR - I’m interested in the Dual 2.5" + Slim ODD Bay to improve my work.

Thanks for the opportunity and kind regards to you all!

Interested in 2x2.5" + Slim ODD cage. I do need a ODD for archiving files and additional 2.5" hot swap bays will be useful for modifying storage on the fly.

Darkflash all mesh , E-atx . Got this case specifically because it has no glass but plenty of air and space. The io is all on top and when you remove the front there is no overhang . Plan on modding the front panel and mounting the fans deeper inside to give it a smaller footprint . Will have to do some light modding but there is plenty of room where the drive cage was mounted . Want to put the drives’ dock on the front fan mount bracket and have access with as little fab as possible . Would prefer the ultraslim , have a mobile dvd burn drive that would be perfect for it .

Thanks

I would finally make the nas I keep putting off building…. Either one would be great.

Just same as “alwaysFlOoReD”, I also have absolutely no use for one, at least for now. I would probably sell one so I could build a newish gaming computer with last gen parts. Btw, I live in Indonesia, can I join this giveaway?

I’d super-charge my NAS with the 24 bay cage. Data hoarder situation.

I’ve a pretty large rig but it’s reached the point where I can’t add any more drives. I’ve started accumulating parts for a second all-flash NAS but that’s not ideal as I’d much rather have a single integrated unit. The icydock is dense enough that I can swap out one of the 3.5 cages with it and not lose too much usable capacity.

I have an Antec 1200 ATX case with four 4x3 3.5 drive cages for a total of 16 drives and 112TB capacity. I’d reduce to 12x3.5 drives, add the icydock then install a bunch of 1.6TB SSDs I’ve lying around in a ZFS pool configured as a cache layer in front of the HDD pool.

Either would be great but wouldn’t say no to both :grinning: the2 bay would go into my workstation so i could also have an optical drive. The other would go into a Proxmox server that i building it to host home servers and a smart server as as a lab

Would love to win the 24-bay enclosure to make a stupid fast storage server! Would be happy with the 2-bay enclosure as well for my media server!

Well I would love to win the 24 x 2.5" cage. I have a 20 bay server filled with spinning rust atm… I’m planning on moving into a fifth wheel camper to live full time and I have to downscale my server setup. I’ve thought about going all SSD so my data will survive my travels and be more energy efficient.

I could use either one to fill some holes in my forbidden server case. One would let me use tons of SSD storage. The other would let me add a 2 SSDs and a bluray/dvd drive to convert media on the system which stores it.

Hi all I’m interested in the 24 bay icy dock cage.

Currently looking to upgrade my x99 6850k system in a Corsair 900d to the new Ryzen that’s just been announced.

The old system will be come my ultimate home server with Truenas for backups Plex and docker.

I already have the hard drives (pic included) from a decom project at work but don’t have anywhere to put them. They will be the starting point and I can upgrade them as I can afford some 4tb versions.

The plan would be to get something similar but being so pricey it will have to wait for after the upgrade and some savings. The 900d is built for it with enough 5.25 drive bays with the fan controller.

both, i am a data hoarder

I would like the 24 × 2.5 inch to expend the storige of my persenel server over time.

I would also like the 2 × 2.5 inch for the same reason. And so I can still read cd’s.

Hey, l would be interested in the 24 bay icy dock cage.
I watched your last video on the icydocks and it got me interested in building a server around them. I bought a watercooling server case from alphacool and bought the 5 bay 3.5" Icydock (modded with a noctua fan for silence) and I plan to buy a 24 bay icy dock cage regardless for the other side of the server (This is just delayed by a month or two as I’ve just signed to buy a house and my partner wont let me spend anything for a few months ). I have all my m.2 drives on the motherboard or in asus extender cards so the only thing I need is space for the ssd’s. The long term goal is to replace the R720 as my 24/7 system and just use that for cold backups as I found I don’t need the 120tb of space I have in that one.
Being I work in IT security I build a lot of VM’s and replicate businesses on my servers while testing so I prefer to have a lot of ssd’s for building vm’s to test.
