@Logan when I saw you holding that hilariously tiny Lian Li TU100B briefcase PC for the first time, I knew I had to have it.
So I built it, and it kicks ass!
Firstly, I want to say that the Colugo build you came up with is the most underrated build I've ever come across. Everyone I show this build to is absolutely stunned (especially when I open it up). It's sleek, has room for a few 2.5" drives (or 2 + 1x Slim DVD-Burner), stays VERY cool, is rock solid, games like a beast and is ridiculously portable. All that's left is getting a foldup monitor and keyboard and carrying everything with you in 1 hand.
MSI Z97I-PLUS Mini ITX Motherboard (WIFI/Bluetooth 4.0)
Intel I5-4690K 3.5GHz 1150 CPU
Noctua Low Profile CPU Cooler
MSI GTX 760 ITX Video Card
8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 2400
Crucial M550 512GB SSD (on sale for $200)
Silver Stone 80-Plus Bronze 450W SFX Form Factor Power Supply
Case: Lian Li PC-TU100B
Slim DVD Burner
Slight mod: I slipped in a 140mm (~90CFM/24dBA) Blue LED fan instead ;) . This resolved the overheating issues with the stock fan. It's attached at only one corner, yet doesn't move even 1mm due to being so tightly packed in the case. All cables are out of the way for maximum airflow.
Improvements/Ideas:
CPU: Using the i5 4690k instead ($199 @ Microcenter + 1150 mobo discount)
CPU Alternative: Intel E3-1231 v3 3.4GHz ($257)
GPU: Upgrade to the SAPPHIRE R9 285 2GB ITX
Power Supply: Silverstone Tek 600W SX600-G Fully Modular SFX (Wow, is it seriously named the Tek!?). It has a single +12V rail with 50A. 'Nuff said.
What do you guys think of this improved build? I almost think it's worth doing a new video on (w/ benchmarks?) Long live the Colugo!
I've got a very similar build, http://pcpartpicker.com/b/9CBmP6
Currently I'm running a 4690s to stay cool on an MSI H97i AC board with an R9 270x. The R9 285 itx looks like an amazing upgrade. I'm so pumped they came out with that. It will most likely be my next upgrade. I did some craziness with my build though and put a regular 3.5" 3TB HDD in there. There is no mount, but I zip tied it into the Slimdrive DVD drive bracket and its working with no problems to far. Heat is the biggest issue with this case, you can fit a Corsair H55 in there. I had one on my AMD 760k when I first built it. Its super tight, but it does fit. There are pictures on my PCPartpicker page.
A fitting update to the Colugo Part list would have to be the new short R9 285 from Sapphire. Super short and still packs all the power, true audio, mantle/Dx12. And in an ITX package.
The main reason for me is for looks (you look like G-man carrying it) and because I have to go up/down a few flights of stairs. Eventually I got sick of hauling a huge ATX case. Hell, even my previous Micro-ATX rig is large and clunky by comparison.
I noticed w/ the stock 120mm fan I was getting up to 84C for the GPU and 50-60C for the CPU. The HDD temps would get a bit high during gaming as well. After the 140mm fan was installed, I had ~60-65C at peak temps for the GPU and 40-50C for the CPU after gaming for hours. For anyone else reading this, the 140mm fan does not normally fit, so it requires some maneuvering.
I just went ahead and grabbed a TU100 and power supply. I'll be doing an APU build with this case. I don't have a need for gaming at high graphics settings. Most of my games are of the 'old skool' anyway.
