CNBC: Facebook sent a doctor on a secret mission to ask hospitals to share patient data

If I were facebook (in charge at facebook), I would definitely sell all the data I could to insurance companies so they can “appropriately” price individual premiums.

Privacy concerns aside, I’m not opposed to something like this. I can see numerous benefits, especially with finding data on communities with high populations of unconventional diseases. Hospitals might not be properly equipped and can potentially save more lives. Especially if it leads to a boost in staffing or higher stocks of medical equipment and prescriptions.

Unfortunately insurance companies are capitalistic; they want easy profit. I see this as a way they can stop providing insurance to those that need it most.
