Cool behind the Imax tech.
@Argone making a lounge type channel for AV / movie etc stuff.
Just ordered some new movies, really cant wait for the basement project to start and finish so I can have a semi decent movie watching environment for once.
Maybe do a monthly / quarterly movie watch and everyone can submit a movie, we let @discobot roll a die for what one we will all buy and watch? Good way to expand collection and watch something you might not normally watch. Maybet get L0T to do a watch and review too @Level1_Amber @GigaBusterEXE
Also I highly reccomend for 85 inch or larger tcl qm8 or hisense u8 series.
I also just bought a 85inch qm8 to replace my 110inch projector setup. I am running a trial on it to see if I want to go back to the projector or not. If I go back to the projectors I will move the qm8 to my upstairs living room.
Two shows on sale atm.
Just picked up The complete The Last Kingdom, was like $35
Also what do you think about 4k vs just 1080p Bluray. I guess I need to test some time in the future.
1080p is avc which is 50% less efficient of a codec than hevc. Like hevc has better quality at the same bitrate as avc. 4k is around 80 to 120mbps of hevc and 1080p blurays are 15 to 30mbps of avc. So sheer bitrate and better efficiency/compression uhd blurays are better. But with ai upscaling on the fly sometimes it is not noticeable.
Yeah Its like I get it would look better still frame vs still frame but can you notice the difference when wathcing. It just seems like they charge to much for the upgrade and not to mention the extra storage space on my server since I am to lazy to compress and just leave them as mkv files. (My cheapness wars with better quality)
I remember someone mention 4k is sharper and what not, but what is really the game changer is hdr also 10bit with over a billion colors vs 16milion of 8bit.
Guess I really need to do an A/B compare I think I got Dune 2 in 4k and i think that comes with all 3 versions
I will say comparing my non hdr 4k tv it is noticeable. Dark scenes are easier to make out all the while not having lifted blacks.
OLED should make the blacks not really an issue I would expect
You can go bigger or go oled smaller for around the same price. 85inch is around oled 65inch price and blacks still are good. TCL and Hisense hi end are as good as sony and samsung but at a reduced price. But motion handling is not nearly as good as sony’s. But image quality is fantastic.
Just preorded 430 movie, sucker for kevin smith stuff. Didnt even realize he had new stuff coming out right now. Only opted for blu-ray vs 4k tho as I dont think I would care enough in that movie.
Im maxed out on the 77" oled (only LG C3) It will barely fit the space (kind of bad layout but should still be good) Ill post pictures by the end of the year when the reno starts and is done.

I love Clerks and Mall Rats, and all his other movies. He even directed some Flash episodes.
You might look into calibration of your oled. When you spend more than a 1000 calibration can improve the experience and might be like an additional 500.
