Changing sound cards

HEllo, i am upgrading my sound card from my onboard audio to a legit sound card, but how do i change it, i know its pci, but do i need to go into the bios or anything?

Turn off computer, plug it in, turn on computer, install drivers, plug in necessary cables, profit.

Also, you may have to set the newly installed sound card as the default device. To do this (Windows Vista and above), go to contral panel, search "sound", click "Change Sound card settings", and a new window should appear. Under the "Playback Devices" tab, find the sound card and click it to highlight, then click the button "Set Default" on the lower right.

Alternatively, right-click the volume icon in the Notification Area (right of task bar) and select "playback devices". Select sound card, then click "Set Default"

some times windows wont recognise a new soundcard unless its a fresh install with the card already present. (creative sound balster X-FI had this issue), but most of the time you can just plug it in and turn on the pc. load up windows and it will eather scan for new hardware straigth away or you can tell it to. 1s done reboot and your sound should work. i say reboot just in case it adds reg entries for the software.
