I need a new case that can support 3 or more GPUs without resorting to stacking them right on top of each other. I’m currently using the Fractal North XL, which I like aesthetically, but it’s just not cutting it in terms of GPU clearance and layout flexibility. I’d like some recommendations of cases that people are actually using.
I’m running the ASUS Pro WS WRX90E-SAGE SE, which is SSI EEB form factor — 12” x 13” (30.5 cm x 33 cm) — so standard ATX support won’t cut it. I’m hoping to find a case that:
Supports SSI EEB (or can accommodate it with minimal mods)
Has good airflow for multiple GPUs
Optional 2x PSU support (likely going to 220 volt and won’t need it)
Doesn’t require stacking GPUs too closely (though that may be wishful thinking)
Bonus if it fits on a desk
That said, I imagine I’ll probably need to use riser cables to get adequate clearance between the GPUs, so I’d also appreciate any PCIe Gen 5 riser recommendations that folks have actually used and trust.
I’d love to hear what other folks are using — especially if you’ve got 3+ GPU setups. Pics of your builds would be awesome, and any pros/cons of the case you’re using would be super helpful.
That’s going to be really, really hard to get to work if you use the flow though GPUs such as the one in the picture. I’d go so far as to say borderline impossible.
Reason being, you will have the exhaust of the GPU flowing into the intake of the next. The 1st GPU will probably be fine, the next two will run hot, probably fail*. Something like the fractal Torrent might give you enough front to back airflow to have a chance, but, it’s not a good plan.
You really need the blower style GPUs for this. They exhaust their hot air out the back of the case rather than into the next slot for this reason.
I fried a card of nvme drives because my 4090 was blowing hot exhaust on them. This despite 8x 140mm fans running nearly 100% in the XL case, same as you have. The 5090 runs even hotter.
I picked up this display unit locally with all important parts remaining unscathed. It’s similar to microcenter’s current sku of 370403. I’ve been really impressed with it.
It is not exactly aligned with your hardware, but might generate some ideas.
Below is a post with 5 GPUs (2 PSUs) in one case: Corsair Obsidian 1000D (now you might consider the 9000) using 3 on mobo and 2 mounted (via extenders) in case where the liquid cooler pump is supposed to be. The are spacers between the extended GPUs to help circulation. This setup has been running continuously on AI models for about a year. I note there are other big cases (e.g., Thermaltake Core W200), but this is the one I have experience using.
The CS383 has 8 PCI slots vs the 7 from The Fractal North XL. You can put a GPU on the last one and it would be half outside the motherboard. This could have one slot in between each GPU in your setup.
