I have no use for this thing :
So what I'm going to do is to install a lightweight OS but idk which to be sure probably ubuntu to be easiest but dig into more barebones like Slackware or arch for that matter.
Specs on the Tab 4 10.1 :
- Quad Core 1.2 Ghz ARM chip
- 16 Gig of storage (expandable)
- 1.5 Gigs of ram
- 720p display
I have an adapter that allows usb and mouse but i need to know is there a possibility to flash the system to boot up to the sd card so i can install linux on it or is it a completely different concept all together?
I know the precautions are that you can brick the machine in general which is obvious, and i have a chance to sell it ($150.00 probably, MD) but i'm sick and tired of it gathering dust on my night table, also it would be cool for it to be an old tablet as a basic computer for work purposes, probably give it away as a gift or something.
probably. have you googled the question at hand?
Yes i have consistently but the results that came up were very vague or not found idk if anyone have done this before.
Per Wikipedia:
Linux distributions compiled for the ARM architecture have been successfully run via chroot.
A port of Ubuntu to run natively on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been currently in development as well, which boots via the moboot multiboot bootloader (using the same method as the Android port). The port is currently in an early alpha stage and is functional.
Old project described here And, here's a Ubuntu vid.
So, while these serve as proof of concept, I don't believe that this project is still under active development - AKA: there is likely no turn-key ROM that you can simply blow into your tablet and be good to go. Still, if you REALLY want a Linux education, it would be a fun project.
