Dear @wendell I hope your New Year is off to a great start,
I happen to see this video
In which a vega 56 is used while being bottlenecked by a 3900 and 16GB of ram
Yet on 1440p with the use of HBCC (High Bandwidth Cache Controller )
In which the GPU can use storage mediums as a lower level cache for its rendering purposes we see in most of the games doubling of the frame rate.
Which makes me wonder some things
a) how far would it go with top gear such as low latency 6600 or 6000 32-64 RAM kit and a top CPU like a 9800x3D
b) it is on “b” but its the main reason I decided to make this topic in hopes of you to be interested in making a video about it, how would it fair paired with a fast low latency nvme or SFF or u3 storage drives which would be a lot faster than the uncached cheapo ssd used in the video
b2) what’s the sweespot for said drives in terms of performance per dollar related to gaming FPS usinc HBCC like you could test the fasted you have and then the fastest you have that a mere mortal could buy so a drive that cost a few hundred bucks for at least a couple of TBs lol
c) Could you try all that with a vega64 (most common HBCC compatible card) and a Radeon VII or Mi60?
d) how would it fair using AMD ROCm for visual or image diffusion models or models similar to SORA etc which need high amounts of VRAM ?
I mean could this be the poor man’s gateway for such a scenario ? Could you pretty pretty please test its limits using the most appropriate low latency high speed storage media and ram and your special linux sauce binding skills? Thanks you daddy! ehmm I mean Wendell!
