I have a copy of Windows 2019 Data Center and it’s only licensed for 16 physical cores. Though I’m annoyed at the idea of license/core verse license/machine I digress. I know it’s possible to buy licenses for like 16 core and such, but I was wondering if a second cd key would work for that second license? Kind of the downside of upgrading my server from dual 6 core to dual 10 core Xeons before getting the install media.
I saw that one earlier, as well as several others… I’ve yet to find an answer. Most of these tell you how the licensing is calculated but very few on installing the license.
My current file server is running 2012r2 Data Center and is feeling very dated, mostly in the UI, Ugh metro… I’m hoping another home lab person has tried, since google has actually been mostly useless.
I’m sticking to the windows server as I don’t have adequate backup media to backup and transfer back, as well as I really what to learn the windows server side better. Yes I’m kind of a masochist.
It’s a read between the lines situation.
It’s not even between the lines, it is literally spelt out in the third paragraph of the second answer there.
As for the question at hand: I’m not an expert in the Datacenter licensing, but logically speaking, that wouldn’t work (even from a technical standpoint). When you get a second license key for the same amount of cores, and activate that, it replaces the old license key. You can’t have 2 separate license keys activated for the same product, they are not additive.
ok, that makes sense… sad that I can get a 16 core licensed product key for like $55-60 with the but looks like the additional 4 core license is more then my van … on a full tank of gas… with current gas prices… I may have to back burner this one… thanks for the aid. or may have to look into another system to install it on.
