I have installed CachyOS on my MSI Prestige 13 AI+ Evo A2VMG (Intel Core Ultra 7 258V w/ 32GB RAM) and I installed CachyOS onto it. Everything’s great but anytime I reboot the system it will hang on boot when I have it connected to my Anker 778 Thunderbolt 4 dock. Is this a known issue with Thunderbolt 4 docks on Linux or is entirely the dock I purchased? Is this the curse I get for running Linux on such new hardware lol?
We’re going to need a little more info to figure out exactly what’s going on here. By “hangs on boot” I presume you are stuck at a spinning loading wheel?
Sorry for the late reply. Yes that is exactly what I mean
If you hit Esc then you’ll see what’s going on behind-the-scenes.
Thanks for the tip, when it happens again I’ll try that.
For what is worth, I use a Lenovo TB4 dock with (also Lenovo) laptop with the same CPU as yours, and it works fine with Linux Mint. The only thing I had to fix was audio, which had some buffering issues that caused cut sound. Bumped the buffer and good to go. But the rest of it was plug and play, whether connected at boot or connecting later.
Come to think about it, I think it was connected when I installed Mint, since I ive-booted and tested a few distros to see how they managed multiple screens and everything that was plugged to the dock, before hitting the install button.
This is only issue I have had with Linux on Lunar Lake. Audio, WiFi, Graphics, etc. all worked out of the box.
I only had to do a reinstall once because I was too afraid to break anything from switching to a different bootloader for better snapshot support.
I tried pressing Esc at the loading wheel screen and nothing happens
Funnily enough though if I shutdown and turn it back on without connecting to the Thunderbolt dock then not only does it boot properly (which I already knew and have been doing) but the Esc key works as it should
I found the answer on another forum if anyone stumbles across this
