Building a workstation PC your advice is appreciated

I am building a new PC for a friend he is using all the adobe products and few games. He rarely do video editing work.So this is what I have mange to come with:

CPU I7-6700 (3.40 GHz) http://ardes.bg/cpu-processors/INTEL+Core+I7-6700+3.40+GHz-71717 $ 396,36

motherBoard Gigabyte Z170M-D3H http://ardes.bg/motherboards/Gigabyte+Z170M-D3H-72990 $ 151,74

videoCard ASUS GeForce GTX 960 2GB OC Strix http://ardes.bg/video-cards/ASUS+GeForce+GTX+960+2GB+OC+Strix-65470 $ 257,58

RAM 2x8GB DDR4 2133 KINGSTON ValueRAM
http://ardes.bg/memory-ram/8GB+DDR4+2133+KINGSTON+ValueRAM-71545 $ 131,76

powerSuply 600W Be Quiet System Power 7
http://ardes.bg/power-supplies/600W+Be+Quiet+System+Power+7-71849 $ 96,66

SSD 250GB SSD SAMSUNG 850 EVO
http://ardes.bg/hard-drives/250GB+SSD+SAMSUNG+850+EVO-65443 $ 139,86

** Total $ 1 173,96 **

This is really pushing the limit of the budge...what will you change ? And is there a point to get the asus gtx 960 4GB vs the asus gtx 960 2 GB? He is using a 1080p monitor and the case will be build from scratch :)

That looks very solid for the task at hand.
I would push for the 4GB GTX960.
Even though my 2x660's are kind of old, they work fine but the 2GB RAM is always maxed out at 1080.

Although the i7-6700 is awesome, an i5-6600 or 6600K will save a bit of money for the 4GB GeForce.
I use Photoshop all the time as well as 3D modeling and some gaming.
My i5-4690K @ 4.5 Ghz works great. The only time I miss not having an i7 is when rendering 3D.
When I looked into it just now I was surprised that Adobe does better with a faster clock than more cores.
An overclocked i5 may do better than a locked i7.

Shameless humblebrag

i would go for a i7 5820k build since adobe programs will benefit with more cores and also get a 4GB 960

Side question: Why not use a Xeon? A workstation box for editing, gaming, whatever the hell would benefit from a Xeon more wouldn't it?

Considered getting an R9 380 4GB model? Seems to hold a good framerate for most games, and is about the same price as the GTX 960. I myself picked up the XFX R9 380 4GB on newegg for $195 for a build I was doing for someone a couple weeks ago. Of course if Nvidia is desired for CUDA then that makes sense.

It only helps in very particular situations.

In most cases it does very little. Sometimes xeon chips are nice cause they have the same specs and are cheaper than their i7 counter parts, but they do not come with onboard graphics.

So basically xeon chips ultimately become a matter of avoiding the onboard gpu tax.

Other then that, they really do not do anything for the average user.

You might want a 380 over a 960, open CL tends to have a wider install base, and photoshop doesn't really need GPU acceleration

Otherwise it seems fine, maybe save money and get a Xeon 1231v3 if it's a lot less expensive

Sounds like a stupid expensive APU :P dem i7's doh

I have found a great deal for the i7 7600 - 346$ the Xeon 1231v3 is almost 100$ more in Bulgaria.
And i have switch the video card for a cheaper and with 4GB of vram => GIGABYTE GTX 960 GV-N960WF2OC-4GD.
And the RAM sticks will be DDR4 2133MHz 2x8GB CL13 LPX Black.

Now i am not sure only about the MotherBoard Gigabyte Z170M-D3H ....

**And will there be a significant improvement if I get a different cooler for the CPU because the I7 is 3,40 GHz and turboBoost to 4,00 GHz? Shoud i switch the stock cooler with something or not ?

.

I did a lot of number crunching and found that on average the igpu only costs about 50 bucks.

Which TBH is actually quite fair.

That 50 dollar chip can REALLY come in handy if your GPU dies or you want to sell your gpu for cash to buy a new gpu without having any real down time.

Where the price REALLY starts to go up is when you have an unlocked chip with a higher clock speed. Intel really will gouge you for every penny if you want higher stock clock speeds.

Consider a B150 or H170 motherboard since you don't really need the features of the Z170 chipset. Also, that board doesn't have very good reviews here in the US, so I'd probably pick another one.

A stock cooler should do just fine. I find Intel stock coolers pretty decent at stock clock speeds, actually.

Thanks for all the comments! :) The final part list is purchased :
