Build a home Nas

Hello I currently turned my old pc into my home NAS. I am running
Ryzen 5700G
ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING
40TB HDD

I am having issues with ram for some reason ECC is not enabling. I have bought 2 different sets now, one from Kingston and the other from V color by following the recommended list from Asus. But still no luck.

Kingston KSM26ED8/16ME
Vcolor TE416G26D819

Your CPU doesn’t support it:

Welcome to the forum. Sorry that your hardware isn’t compatible but before you spent the money on ECC ram a quick google would have told you that you need a pro apu which your model is not.

ECC Ram is nice to have but not strictly necessary for most home use cases. Hopefully you are in the return window or perhaps you can sell it.

Thx, yea can return both. I’m going to use Truenas scale. I should be ok, right?

TruNAS uses ZFS which has checks built into the software to deal with potential error and data corruption. You should be fine, assuming you aren’t running a banking system or storing nuclear launch codes on your home server😉
