Bought 5 SAS HDDS, cant seem to do anything with them

So, I bought 5 of these models: HUH721010AL4200

I have them connected to a lsi 9201-8i via mini was 36 SFF-8087 to SFF-8482 Connectors.

These things have been hateful. smartctl says:

I’ve tried using the modified 3rd pin from the power as that’s been an issue with some drives, but at this point, I’m not sure what else to do. Could they be vendor-locked? Could it be the hba controller cant communicate correctly with the 4kn drive? You guys are my last hope.

I am not familiar with your hba/raid card. Make sure it’s from a family of cards mentioned on this page: Top Picks for FreeNAS HBAs (Host Bus Adapters)

I have success with running same gen SAS drives on SAS2008 and SAS 2308 HBAs.

that card is SAS2008 based so it should be fine. (unless it is bad)

that drive, and the SMART info appear to be standard non vendor locked. but it may be expecting initialization from something.

can you boot it with GPARTED live and see if it will let you wipe the GPT table and then build a new partition.

Also, to verify you are not having controller, card issues, stick a SATA drive you know works on it and verify it comes up correctly on the card.
