I don’t think zfs cares except in the case of optical media but maybe you could get one of those dvdram things and trick it.

I was gonna say haha, /dev/null has astounding capabilities at data storage. Maybe not so much retrieval, but it’ll hold everything you write to it.

You can, in fact, use ZoL. It may be “about redundancy,” but you do not need to configure a storage pool with redundancy, but instead as JBOD, then add storage at will.
