I'm looking for a good enclosure for a NAS drive. For the HDD, I'm choosing between an HGST Deskstar NAS, a regular HGST Deskstar, or a WD Red. Probably 2 or 3 TB. I'm going to get two drives and two enclosures (for separate machines). It can have a fan, but it can't be absurdly loud. Some of the ones on Amazon have odd firmware updates or aren't very well rated. I don't want my NAS drive, which will be on 24/7 to overheat. I also don't want it to fail because of a cheap enclosure. Are there any good USB 3.0 enclosures out there?
Does anyone have experience with the Sabrent enclosures? They seem popular on Amazon, but some have odd firmware problems.
I guess that I'll have to just go with a Sabrent one. I still have to decide between the HGST NAS drive and the regular HGST Deskstar drive. The NAS one apparently has a thinner shell and is much louder. Has anyone ever compared them before?
I have the HGST, works great.
@Dynamic_Gravity do you have the consumer grade HGST Deskstar or the more expensive HGST Deskstar NAS drive? I've had a lot of consumer drives (Seagate and WD) fail on me over the years, so I don't know if I should switch to the NAS ones. But I've never bought regular HGST drives before, so I can't really decide for myself.
I have the NAS one. Its beautiful.
