Best sub $100 wireless router?

Hello, I am looking for an acceptable quality wireless router for wired gaming (gigabit ports, is that all you should look for..?) that also has good wi-fi capabilities for many wi-fi enabled devices. My only controlling (firmware/software/webpage control...!?!?) requirements are that it be capable of PAINLESS port forwarding and easily changing NAT type for console gaming as well. I am, however, willing to MAKE a router; if one would yeild superior performance and reliability, but don't know where to start. The budget for a router that I would make would depend on the delta of how much better a customed router is in said aspects (performance and reliability) than a sub $100 router. I'm thinking around $250 would be the actual cap IF the delta is high enough.

Thanks in advance if you can help out with some router knowledge

Building your own router will be a massive gain over any whitebox you can purchase. (unless you wanna get something on the enterprise level :P)

I'd look at some of the Asus Routers (yea weirld asus) they have been making some really good ones recently. Alternativly look at Linksys, they will have pretty much anything to suit your budget.

I vote make your own. Logan has a video using PFSense: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0JFfpG4BWI
