Best GPU for 1920x1080 resolution

Hi forum, I'm building a PC gaming setup around a 40 inch HDTV that has a max resolution of 1920x1080.  I know some people don't like gaming on biggish TVs, but its what I have.  When I watch the reviews for the latest and greatest GPUs the benchmarks are all for higher res. settings.  I'm wondering what people think is the best choice for a GPU that will let me run games with ultra settings @ 1920x1080.  Thanks.

any of the higher end 6000 or 7000 series cards by amd will do fine (7870, 6870, 6970, ext..)

do a google search for <card name> fps benchmarks. toms hardware has tons of them. just look for the 1920x1080 benchmarks, the screen size doesnt matter,

I do know the 5870 will run it prettly...

Any of the top of the line cards from either AMD or Nvidia will do just fine for that resolution.

I would suggest a GTX 660 TI, GTX 670, GTX 680, Radeon HD 7950, or Radeon HD 7970.

I would personally probably go for the 7970 just because they cost about the same as a GTX 670, have more VRAM, and perform better than a GTX 680 when overclocked.

Thanks for the help guys.  I was aiming for the cheapest card I could get away with at this resolution.  Been looking at the AMD 7000 line, especially the 7770 black eddition from XFX (http://xfxforce.com/en-us/Products/Graphics-Cards/AMD/AMD-Radeon-HD-7000/AMD-Radeon-HD-7770/FX-777A-ZDB4.aspx).  Looks like I can get fps > 30 for most current titles with this one and that it runs really cool and uses minimal power.

get the HIS IceQ Boost Clock Radeon HD 7950

it's ~$110 cheaper than the 7970, and has perfomance ~=gtx 670

my 6850 1gb, can run most games on at least medium to high settings

Been reading some more recent reviews and my current favorite is the Radeon 7850 which is on newegg for about $180 now.  Good to hear the other cards are handling games well.

Yeah, I've got my two GTX 580s in SLI and I can play most games on ultra with only one card. That's why I'm starting to think about Nvidia Surround.

The 7850 isn't as powerful as a GTX 580, but it should still get the job done. The 7870 is almost as powerful as a GTX 580 though:

Well that's embarrassing...>.>

hahaha, gotta double check those links!  back on topic though ...

I think this is a pretty interesting comparison (http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/549?vs=598).  The difference between these two cards is about $200 but for gaming at 1920 x 1080 it doesn't seem like the 7850 does bad at all.  I guess another thing to consider is how much I'm going to use Phys-X or however they write it.

PhysX is just a marketing gimmick. Very few games actually use it.
