Best Gaming Monitor, Expert Recommendation to Choose

I researched the best gaming monitor as I recently started spending more time gaming after work and realized my old display is blurry and strains my eyes during longer sessions. i have been experiencing constant eye fatigue and motion blur, especially in fast-paced games, which really affects my overall experience. i went through reviews from trusted sources like RTINGS, Tom’s Hardware, and PCMag, and after comparing many options these two kept coming up as the top choices:

SAMSUNG 32" Odyssey G55C Series QHD 1000R Curved Gaming Monitor, 1ms(MPRT), HDR10, 165Hz, AMD Radeon FreeSync, Eye Care, Glare Free, Sharp Resolution LS32CG550ENXZA

however, i am having trouble deciding which one would be better for me and i would love to get your expert advice and hoping maybe some gamers, tech enthusiasts, or anyone who has used these regularly on this forum can also share their advice.

i usually play fast-action games like Apex, Warzone, and Valorant, so I’m wondering which one would be more recommended for me? any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Get the cheapest one

I’m partial to higher nits brightness though.

Do your eyes a favor and buy an OLED monitor.
It had the same “wow” moment for me as my first SSD or dual-core CPU.

Honestly, a monitor is SO personal, that I recommend you:
#1 go to a good INDEPENDENT non-sponsored reviewer like Tim from [Monitors Unboxed] on YouTube (sorry, I can’t paste the link).

#2 see something like his 2025 round-up on that channel

#3 see IF he has reviewed anything on your shortlist

#4 search for reviews of your shortlist versus his recommendations

Here are my last two that suited MY needs (i.e. mostly gaming and I’m limited to 27" due to physical space):

MSI MPG 271QRX (27"/1440P/360Hz) - purchased mid 2024
Very little to fault: true HDR, OLED speeds, OLED contrast, but screen apparently not suited to bright rooms due to peak brightness and reflections (not a problem as I still run it at maximum half brightness in my dark, bunker-like mancave).

Gigabyte M27Q (27"/1440P/170Hz) - purchased late 2020
Great Value and decent refresh rates for 5+ years ago and fantastic for gaming, but terrible fake “HDR” with obvious light bleed when watching movies - which I don’t do often, but it would have been v annoying if that was a primary use! It was good for me at the time (technology that was available and limited budget), but I was very happy to stop using it as my primary.

I can help with that.

Thanks for adding that… as you can see, I’m new here

I figured L1T it might be a good place to ask for Linux advice, since I’m exploring it for the first time as a daily driver: lots of “dabbles” in the past going back to Red Hat 1 days (my Half Life dedicated server on a Pentium Pro 200) and a few use-cases for running low spec netbooks and HTPC’s… but SteamDeck has now made it usable for gaming, so giving it a crack!

I did consider OLED, but it’s honestly outside my budget right now and I’m mainly focused on fast competitive gaming rather than media consumption. That’s why I narrowed it down to these two QHD curved options with high refresh rates and eye-care features.

Between the Samsung and LG, I’m leaning toward whichever gives the smoother experience in fast shooters like Apex and Valorant. The higher refresh rate on the LG is tempting, while Samsung’s panel quality and curve consistency seem very well regarded too.

I think for anyone not wanting to jump to OLED pricing yet, both of these look like solid, high-value choices depending on refresh rate preference and brightness needs. Appreciate all the advice — definitely helped narrow things down.
