I would like to know what the best antivirus software is. I've always used Norton but recently I've discovered that it's not as good as most people claim. I know of free software such as Avast and AVG and paid for such as NOD32 and Kaspersky but what is the best option?
Could you also highlight the problems with Norton so I can better see what's wrong with it. I know it slows your computer down and leaves a load of files on your computer if you try and uninstall it without Norton's uninstaller.
Most anti virus software I've tried hogged resources and didn't do crap. I stopped using any anti virus about two years ago and haven't had any trouble. Keep a copy of malwarebytes installer in case the off chance that you do get a virus.
Logan did a video I think a Inbox video on anti-viruses which I'm sure you can find quickly on Google. My personal preference is trend micro here's a link: http://www.trendmicro.co.uk/
Wow, I just typed up a huge informative 'article' for you on this silly apple device, then forgot to copy to clip board and the browser crashed. C'est la vie!
Avast free and Nod32 paid have both received top av-comparatives 3 star advanced+ rating. Can't go wrong with either.
Get rid of Norton, control panel > remove programs.
Sorry, not going to retype the whole thing, what good is free advice anyway.
I second this. I've never known anybody that had a problem with it or had any working with it myself. This or microsoft security essentials are probably the best two.
I do have that common since stuff, but since the people I live with, and my friends don't, I use Eset and honestly they have saved my pc from many of things...mostly my parents!
No matter what Anti-Virus (AV) product you go with, there simply isn't any such thing as "anti-stupid."
There is no way to protect a computer from users who do crazy things like open spam email attachments or surf porn sites with outdated versions of Flash and/or Java - or use really stupid stuff like IE! There's just no way to protect a computer from a stupid user. And I think that's what people are expecting when they buy this AV junk like Norton, McAfee, etc.
And since we're talking about AV stuff, we're really dealing with Windows. Therefore, I say just use the free Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and you will be just as "protected" as you would be if you use any of that other over-priced stuff.
Also! You must keep the AV data/engine updated every minute of every day too. Otherwise, there is no point to any of it whether you decide to pay for it with Norton, McAfee, or use a free AV product.
