What is everyone’s experience with Seagate Ironwolf 8TB and HGST 8TB drives? I’m looking to replace the drives in my NAS and I wanna get drives that are 8TB.
I haven’t used HGST’s 8TB. I have a bunch of their 3TB Ultrastars, but that’s because they’re cheap,not great.
HGST’s 8TB model has a pretty high failure rate comparatively. Might want to go with Seagate unless you can get extra drives for the price (as is the case with $50 3TB drives).
Are you doing a RAID array? I’d get both.
I generally like mixing drives by batch and brands. As long as the RPM speed stays the same, I don’t think it matters.
My reasoning behind it is if I was to buy all my drives at the same time increases the possibility that the drives are from the same batch with the same probability of failure. I also mix brands for the same reason.
