wanted to try kde desktop
I tried these instructions

You can install KDE by installing its group(s):
When I run the command "dnf group list --hidden \*kde\* it lists all the groups with kde in the “ID”
dnf group list --hidden \*kde\*
Code:

ID Name Installed
critical-path-kde Critical Path (KDE) no
kde-apps KDE Applications yes
kde-desktop KDE yes
kde-education KDE Educational applications no
kde-media KDE Multimedia support yes
kde-mobile KDE Mobile no
kde-mobile-apps KDE Mobile Apps no
kde-office KDE Office no
kde-pim KDE PIM yes
kde-software-development KDE Software Development no
kde-spin-initial-setup KDE Spin Initial Setup no
kf6-software-development KDE Frameworks 6 Software Development no

The “yes/no” values on the end are just flagging what kde groups I had installed on my system
I think the critical group to get KDE is the “kde-desktop” one, I’d suggest these others installed along with it with “dnf group install…” to have a good mix:
Code:

sudo dnf group install kde-desktop kde-apps kde-media kde-pim
sudo dnf install okular

but feel free to add from the others. The “kde-office” isn’t that useful in my opinion but it does contain “okular” which is a really important pdf reader on KDE so I’d just install that separately so I’ve added that at the end with my commands above. You might already have it so in that case it would say it is “already installed”.
So run those two commands above from a command line window
To run KDE you just select “Plasma” from the Login Manager window where you usually log in. The fact you installed these groups will have added Plasma to the Login Manager menu.
To log into Gnome use the one of the Gnome ones from the menu

[SOLVED] New Fedora Plasma Workstation 41

then I followed these instructions switch my display manager as gdm did not have

After following the above instructions

Code:

# dnf install sddm
# systemctl disable gdm.service
# systemctl enable sddm.service
# reboot

The fedora docs were useless and did not help
