BD895i SE Proxmox server

Anyone tried using a Minisforum BD895i with an M.2 to SATA adaptor for a Proxmox server? If so, thoughts?

works fine, needs cooling. the fan in the normal mounting position blocks it a bit

Amazing, thanks wendell.

I just built my system tonight, the specs are as follows:

MB: BD895i SE
Fan: Noctua NF A12-x25
GPU: MSI 5060 TI 16GB Gaming Trio
RAM: Kingston Impact DDR5 5600MHz 64GB (2 x 32GB)
M.2 1: 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus - had it laying around
M.2 2: NVMe to 6 port SATA adapter (ASM1066)

Connected to the SATA ports I have a couple of 1TB Red HDDs - I’ve had a bad experience with RAID, so these were setup in my prior server as individual disks where one rsjncs to the other. I also have a single 4TB HDD.

Since building the machine, I booted a Proxmox installer and then got stuck at the first hurdle - deciding on the partition type. I want to minimise disk wear (given the price of SSDs. So I’m thinking of going EXT4. As I understand it, Proxmox will use up somewhere up to 96GB for the OS root partition. Should I manually override it to 64GB? I plan on using log2ram, so don’t expect logs to be written to disk.

Hey mate, hows the temp in full load? Do you think this machine can handle 5-8 VM’s?
