Backup battery Daisy-Chain?

currently?
no

but in the test a few posts above,
yes i did

Yeah. Plugging one into the other is bad. So, don't do that. Otherwise. have fun.

i understand that many people are saying its bad.

but why.?
in my case.

pure sine wave output is the same as from the wall.
second ups wont be able to tell. proven and tested.

im not overloading anything. there is at worst 400 watts load total. measured and teseted at the wall via kill-a-watt

all 3 of the points from that little link from apc are not things in my setup here that are valid

so, 1 = IE as intended.
if something hits my house with enough force to blow out a surge
the first unit breaks and the second unit clicks on and keeps my pc running
thats the whole point of the ups

Furthermore,
if such an event did happen. and i had the units plugged into separate outlets
then BOTH units would be wrecked by said surge. no?

so, 2 = not applicable, as i am not using "all the plugs from unit 1+2"
im using a grand total of 2 plugs and the ups
one desktop (currently typing) 130w
one monitor 48w
and the ups

and 3= not applicable as my units are "Pure sine wave" output
a few posts ago i ran one unit off of the battery inverted power of the first.
and it did not detect anything
it happily continued thinking it was plugged into the wall

I would have found a way to add more batteries to the first one for the extra run time.

yea i was thinking about hacking one apart and adding a fuse and some more ah and a fan

Aside from the losses of going from ac to dc to ac to dc etc I see no problem with doing so however what I'd do is open up both units and parallel the batteries into one unit

if i do that tho, yea id double the battery cap
but if i get hit with a surge and one ups fails.
then my pc gets shut off,
i loose that double redundancy
but gain some efficiency

surge protector
that one looks decent ish but I can't know unless I take it apart

im using 2 of theese

cool story bro

well what was the point in posting a surge protector in a thread i made about my ups units?

put the protector before the ups so it protects the ups

also I believe since your two ups' are line ups' you can use the one you remove the bats from as a straight up surge protector without bats in it (might be a battery alarm you'll have to disable but it should work)

i can see that
gut one use as a shell
install teh batteries from it into number 2
assuming the shell will still act as surge protection and line filter

yeah that's making a lot of assumptions like it doesn't care if batteries are installed and will act anyway (doubtful but worth a shot as all you have to do is disconnect the bats to test it)

if it works,
worst case is i have to yank out a piezo buzzer to shut it up

yeah sounds right
