About a year ago Quan and Logan showed a “retrofited” old boombox using a bluetooth adapter. i one up’ed this idea by using an amplifier board with bluetooth integrated into it.

its pretty loud, and it sounds great using the good car speakers i fit into it.

TSA 7498 100W x2 bluetooth amplifier board - $57 on amazon

DS18 4" car speakers 250w max- $53

Magnavox freetimer boom box- $30

total cost $140. you CAN get a decent bluetooth speaker with a battery for this cost, but it likely wont sound as good. i plan to use 4x 18650 batterys for portable use, giving me 12000 Mah, plenty for use and i can probably fit a total of 16 18650’s in the D cell compartment.

highly recomend anyone interested in making their own bluetooth speaker to pull the trigger.

Nice,

Nice ground-up rebuild. Had the boombox I got my hands on been any less functional than it was I would probably have gone down this road. I see that you have some wires going up to the potentiometers at the top, so that begs the question: do the volume controls work?

No, the volume controls dont work. i change the volume easily with my phone. I kept the potentiometers in case i upgrade to a small SBC to add button functionality. i do need to upgrade the power supply as the original in the stereo is only 8-10V so the Amp cant fully get to 100w until i jump the voltage up to 36.
