Avast changed my browser

Ugh so I just woke up and avast had an update and changed my browser to yahoo. I've changed google to my default page through both my browser and through control panel, restarted my system but my default page is still yahoo. Anyone know what to do?

I basically wiped avast and chrome. Reinstalled chrome and yahoo still has my chrome browser jacked. I have scrubbed and scanned and the only thing left is a file by file seek and destroy. Avast is already wiped. Chrome will be next if i cant resolve this issue.

Really so you've had this too huh? It's annoying because I've always found avast to be decent, but they can fuck off if they're gonna pull this kind of thing. In the manage add-ons as well, it won't let me delete yahoo. So annoying.

Glad to see i am not the only one that has a problem with it. As far as i can tell it is Avast themselves taking advantage of the fact that they are security software in order to implant malware on your system. Definitely leaving a bad taste. Inside of chrome it will not let me wipe it. So screw them both WIPE! I even went back to avg. Which i havnt used in years.

Make sure you go through your AppData folder as well. Chrome has stuff in there and Avast presumably does as well.

cool thanks

try pc decrapifier

So in the end I uninstalled chrome and avast, ran malwarebytes and removed a bunch of crap, reinstalled chrome and avast and I'm back to normal.

Cool, I am file shredding my google user data right now. Just to see. For me it made it pass a reinstall but i didnt scan between uninstall and reinstall. Good to know

i never did trust avast, back in the day when i used shady stuff on my pc i always had avg instead of avast, now its a great thing to know they are doing this kind of crap so i make sure to never use it

Yup, it worked. Once

Here is a duh! lol Turnoff homepage and search engine protection or you will never get rid of it.

I never used web protection with Avast was very happy with it for a long time. I used Avast + COMODO firewall and never got any crap on it. One important thing is to not install any more extra stuff than you need, you know, they want you to install all their crap and not all of it is good.

I uninstalled Avast few months ago though, because of their updated privacy policy and terms of use. They upload any "suspicious" files tho their servers without you confirmation or being notified. Really? And what is suspicious to them? Maybe my private stuff at some point maybe...? Other antiviruses have this too, but in AVG you can turn it off at least.

If you want to protect your privacy on the web use:

Got all that on my main. Chrome is a single use thing for youtube in which i didnt have all of that on it. Understand that this browser jacking came from within Avast itself.  I imagine people are going to scream about this and i hope they do. Thats pretty crappy of a so called security software.

Well I did a short google search and found "Avast Browser Cleanup". From the comments I read that it forces you to use either bing or yahoo, which could also be your problem.

A bit offtopic.. you use Chrome for youtube only? I switched to FF because Chrome kept stealing focus from youtube when it was in fullscreen. Was really pissing me off, and the worst thing is that there is a patch for this from public and google doesn't care lol.

Yup, its all in small print somewhere.  I have use avast for awhile and its never browser jacked anything before till now .Still a wipe and never use again.. I really dont want youtude on my main browser.
