Audio issues related to Level1 KVM (DP 1.4)? Or maybe it's my Caldigit USB C pro dock?

I’m trying to figure out if I’m having audio issues related to the Level1 KVM (the new single monitor displayport 1.4).

My setup is a Windows PC with displayport 1.4 (from club3d) and a 3.5mm audio running into the KVM for #1 and a Lenovo T480s running Fedora 31 connected using the Caldigit USB C Pro dock (that supports thunderbolt) connected to #2.

Windows has no trouble with audio or video, but with Fedora after I plugged in a 3.5mm from the Caldigit dock to the KVM, pulseaudio seems to get stuck. Launching pavucontrol gets stuck on “Establishing connection to PulseAudio. Please wait”.

Up until I connected the audio from my dock to the KVM, pulseaudio would work fine and I could get audio from my laptop. Now I can’t get anything.

dmesg spits out a couple of the following:
usb 3-1.4.2.1.1: 5:2: cannot get min/max values for control 2 (id 5)

followed by continuous lines of the following over time:
usb 3-1.4.2.1.1: 3:1: cannot set freq 16000 to ep 0x83

Seems like an issue with audio coming over the thunderbolt 3 dock, but I’d hooked it up to a speaker directly and had it working before, so not sure what might have changed.

the kvm just has a mechanical 3.5mm jack, so if its auto-impedance detection on the device, that might be going wrong.

if you can specify impedance inserting the audio module, that might resolve it? if that’s it
