I had a failure in December, and am only now getting around to fixing it.
I bought + assembled this system in July 2025 for use as a home server (constant 24/7 on, spiky load), running Ubuntu 25.04.
Initial BIOS 3.10. CPU was left on default settings.
System specifications:
- ASRock B650M Pro RS
- 2x 48GiB non-ECC UDIMM DDR5-5200
- Ryzen 5-9600x
- Dual Supermicro PWS-920P-SQ PSUs
Additional devices:
- 4x Intel P4510 SSDs
- Intel Arc A380 GPU
- Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx NIC
- 1x WD Blue SN550 SSD
- 3x 14TB SATA HDDs
I noticed in late December that the system would not recognize any USB devices unless it had booted without a device plugged in. I thought this would be mitigated by a BIOS update, and attempted to update from the BIOS 3.10 to BIOS 4.03. This succeeded, but seemed to cause issues with the SSDs connected through the bifurcated x16 slot, they would cause the OS to hang while trying to boot.
I attempted to downgrade the BIOS back to 3.10, which seems to have caused the CPU to die. The CPU was tested on that same motherboard and another one of the same model, and a Gigabyte A620M S2H. On all platforms, the CPU and DRAM LEDs would illuminate, and the power supply would draw around 90W. This would occur no matter if any memory was installed.
Finally, I tried a new CPU. I used USB flashback on the original motherboard back to BIOS 3.10, and the system seems to work other than that original USB issue.
