For better or worse (clearly in some of these scenarios where we’ve seen failure to upgrade BIOS versions cause CPU power issues) I’ve (since I put my system together in March 2023) updated the BIOS at nearly every opportunity and never had a single issue (even with Beta releases) — until the 2702 Beta (1/13/25).
For the first time on this build, I had to roll back to Version 2604 (12/05/2024). I did follow the 2702 Beta instructions - I upgraded my AMD chipset drivers. (I normally do anyway, but this is the first time I’ve actually seen Asus include doing so in their upgrade instructions.)
Unfortunately, after the 2702 Beta upgrade, my system was suddenly super unstable. I was able to get it to boot Windows once, but other than that, each time I powered on / restarted the unit, it got to my Boot Manager rEFInd, and when I selected either of my two operating systems, after 15-20 seconds, I’d see the ROG logo again (Press Del / F2 to enter BIOS screen), and it just looped like this.
Luckily, I always back up my BIOS settings, so I flashed it back to 2604, loaded my settings backup, and everything was back to normal.
I’m not going to stop being a frequent BIOS updater, but I’ve decided that, despite my past successes 90% of the time, I’m going to skip those marked “Beta”.
