ASUS WS TRX50 not booting with RTX 3070 or recognizing Display Port

Hi, I posted it here given that this maybe an issue specific to workstation like boards…

Hdmi works with a GT 1030 which would be the “smallest” card that will allow me to run two 4K monitors… but only the HDMI port works. The DP does not.

With the RTX 3070 boot slows to a trickle displaying codes 26, 27… 28 with the white GPU QLed lit. I reseated the cards several times and when back and forth between the 1030 and the 3070. I also plugged the 3070 on PSU1 and alternately PSU2. Same results. 1030 works only on HDMI and 3070 does not work at all

This is one of the earliest 3070, an MSI Trio from back in the days of the great GPU shortages. The 1030 is old too.

My objective is to drive three display port 4K monitors. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

take a pic of how you have it cabled?
got any red LEDs on the board? The pcie power connector on the motherboard at the front is non-optional. it supplies power to the pcie slots for gpus. Sounds like your problem.

Hi Wendell

All power connectors on the motherboard are plugged in. The 2 dangling cables are for the RTX 3070 which I removed in order to make the computer usable with a GT 1030.

The Qled for the GPU (white) stays lit up and the code on the motherboard stays at 26, then 27, then 28 after 5-10 mins and that is as far as I have waited for the boot to complete. With the GT 1030 it boots within 30 seconds or so.

As a side note if both the hdmi and display port on the GT 1030 are plugged in things go wrong in a variety of different ways from putting me in the bios screen after boot to being ignored. But this could be unrelated, and not part of the objective which is to get 3 display port monitors going. So I’ll skip the details on it.

EDIT: The 2 pcie5 and the 1 pcie4 nvme slots on the board are populated.

EDIT 2: I have an RTX 3090 that I can test it with, but that machine is doing a full backup and has another 5-6 hours to go before I can shut it down.

Thanks for all you do and for having this forum for us :+1::zap::muscle:

im real sus of the dual PSU setup. go back to one psu or make sure both mobo right angle connectors come from primary PSU

Same behavior with 1 PSU :frowning:

EDIT: also tried the second slot, no difference

EDIT 2: same result with the RTX 3090

PSU 2 was totally disconnected

RTX 3070 and RTX 3090 now booting after clearing the CMOS

I don’t understand, but between “understanding and it not working” and “not understanding and it working” I’ll take “not understanding and it working” :joy:

EDIT: boot on display ports also works!!

Thanks!!
