Asus ROG Strix B550-F (Wifi) with AMD | Raid configuration

I have a ASUS ROG Strix B550-F (wifi), with a samsung 870 QVO SATA 2.5" SSD 2TB as the boot drive running Win10. Everything works great so far. Now, I have a pair of hdd’s that I want to put in raid 1 off the mobo + I want to take this maintenance opportunity to install Win11 with a clean installation.

I followed the Assu guides and created the RAID but everytime I turn on raid in the uefi the Samsung SSD dissapears. Does anyone know how to keep the RAID for data storage while making use of the Samsung SSD for Win11 booting ? It seems that either I keep AHCI (loosing RAID features) or RAID (loosing my Samsung 980 detection). Please help !

Your Win 11 was installed when your UEFI/BIOS was configured for AHCI. You will need to reformat your SSD first to make it “new” before installing your OS. Make sure your settings in UEFI/BIOS are configured for RAID before reinstalling your OS. Also make sure that your SSD has boot priority before you begin. i hope this helps and welcome to the community!

The Asus docs (eg here for an X470) say Due to chipset limitation, when SATA ports are set to RAID mode, all SATA ports run at RAID mode together. That means you won’t be able to use another disk without it being part of the array.

Leave the UEFI setting to AHCI and use Windows Storage Spaces to manage the mirror. Your array will likely be migratable to another motherboard in the case your present device breaks (touch wood it doesn’t happen).
