ASUS ProArt X670E-Creator ACS in BIOS?

Hi,

Does anyone know if the ASUS ProArt X670E-Creator has the ACS option in the BIOS? Similar to how Taichi does. Trying to evaluate AM5 boards for virtualization.

So far I have found from research that it seems the Taichi has better IOMMU groupings whereas the ProArt has a nice extra pcie slot and decent IOMMU groupings.

If you could turn on ACS and get better IOMMU groupings for the ProArt and have access to all three network controllers or at least two and the extra pcie slot then I think that might be the board to go with.

I tried checking the manuals for this feature but wasn’t mentioned.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

No, there is no such option… But beware also of the taichi, there is a reddit post about vfio (that was also discussed here) saying that bios updates broke iommu. It may have gotten fixed already, but who knows.

There is also this interesting reddit discussion with good info. It’s been suggested there B650E may be a better option (I remember in the discussion here someone posted very nice groups on an asus B650E board…

Yes, I have a working setup. I pass through a gpu, nvme drive and a usb controller (which has at least one port in the back, plus the usb 3.x and usb-c headers connected to the case. I intermittently had (or still have?) some stability issues which are hopefully fixed by reducing my memory OC and upping my curve offset a bit.

Nice! I see you’re using the GeForce 3060 RTX.

What brand is it and do you ever get the reset bug with it? I have a Zotac GeForce 3060 RTX TI that I may use for this build if it doesn’t get the reset bug.

Do you use the iGPU on your host during passthrough? Also, have you tried passing the iGPU through?

I have the Asus dual OC. The only issue I had was related to the resizable bar, but I used this workaround from the arch wiki. I think I only needed it after updating to kernel 6.1 but I’m not sure. No reset bug though (although the BAR resize issue also gives a code 43)

I can also swap the GPU back and forth, but only when using Prime offloading. When I try to actually output on the GPU it works but it is very laggy (mouse movements take seconds, completely unusable).

I tried passing the iGPU once, but I got an instant reboot. I did not really try all possible bios settings related to the iGPU, so I won’t claim it’s impossible. I just gave up as I don’t have a use case for a windows VM with the iGPU.

PS: given that the B650 chipsets seem to have better IOMMU groups, you could also consider the proart B650. It is afaik the cheapest board with x8/x8 slots (albeit pcie 4.0), and seems to probably have better groups. It was not out when I got mine, but I might have picked that up for €200-250 less and had preferred the better groups. By the time pcie 5.0 is a thing, those €250 could buy me a new midrange board.

Yeah, I’m definitely considering the B650 boards now. I’ll have to think about which is more important to me between futureproof build or a potentially better IOMMU grouping.

Trying to find more B650 IOMMU groupings too but hard to find so if anyone has one to share, please do!

I think you have to pass both the APU and corresponding Audio device to the VM, like with a dGPU.

Maybe somebody can answer this:

How is the Thunderbolt capability on this board? Does it function as TB4 controller at all? (its listed as TB controller in the IOMMU group but not advertised in the specs)

Which USB controller can you pass-through? To which ports does it correspond to on the back?

So the thunderbolt controller is intel’s JHL8540 USB4® it is full fat maple ridge thunderbolt 4

Are the pcie slots in different groups? If I put a second gpu will it be in a different group? If I read this correctly your RTX 3060 is in Group 13

The second x8 slot, yes. The third pcie4x2 slot, I don’t know, as I never used it. It is connected to the chipset though, so it could go both ways.
