"ASRock X870 PRO" vs "X570D4U" for NAS

I have an old Athlon based NAS that is dying, and it’s time to upgrade.

I’m leaning toward Ryzen, but trying to decide between AM4/DDR4 and AM5/DDR5. I’m a believer in ECC and ZFS and plan to make this a fully SSD RAID-Z2, so I want at least 6 drives (probably x2TB SATA). The x870 is much cheaper, but CPUs are more expensive and ECC DDR5 is much more expensive, so the 2 systems come out to about the same price. The X570 has lots more ports and 10GB ethernet (vs. 2.5GB) so I could go with 8 (or even 12) drives and get 50% more usable space. Whichever system I go with, I’ll probably go with Ryzen 5 as I don’t need the extra 2-5% of CPU speed of a Ryzen 7.

Any comments? I’m open to other board suggestions, too.

Thanks in advance.

If price is taken out of the equation for being similar, things come down to extra’s like WiFi and IPMI.

Alternatively, look at more Asrock Rack boards, like the B650D43U (amongst others):
https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=B650D4U3-2Q/BCM

It has ECC support, 4x SATA but also suitable for the AMD EPYC 4000 series. Those can be had for as little as USD149.

HTH!
