So I’ve got an ASrock X370 Taichi and ryzen 1700x. They’ve released beta BIOS for this motherboard that supports the 5000 series chips, which is very exciting! I’ve been thinking of getting one of the recently released refresh parts, the R5 5600 to give my machine a much needed CPU update.
However, given these are beta bios, I’m just a little sketched out potentially bricking the system. These BIOS released in January, but I have yet to find a post of anyone else on the web actually trying them out and validating one of the 5000 series chips actually works. Anyone have this board and give it a go yet? Ever tried an ASRock beta BIOS on any board they make?
Just keep in mind that your 1700x CPU will no longer be compatible with the motherboard after upgrading to v7.0.Edit: Sorry, was thinking of an Asrock server board that removed support with their 5000 series BIOS. And I don’t believe there is an easy downgrade path if you run into stability issues with the new CPU.
But being able to extend the life of a x370 board for another few years for under $200 is amazing.
Hello you brave soul, congrats to get it working! I too have the same situation, so I am happy, that you were able to make it work! Question!;)))
How did you manage to flesh the BIOS up to the 7.04?
My Taichi doesn’t want to recognise the BIOS files on my flash drive.
I have the 6.40, the 7.00 and the 7.04 copied onto it.
Formated to FAT32, 64gig flash drive.
If you could let me know how did you manage to get it work, that would be really great from you!
I will be upgrading from a R5 1600.;))
I don’t know if I have missed something.
Yes, the 1600 is the one still installed when I want to upgrade the BIOS.
What BIOS version are you currently running? I took a quick look at the download page and see there are a lot of prerequisites for moving from a really old version to the latest beta. I might had missed one but I think this is the order you need to install them: Older → 3.0 → 3.30 → 5.10 → 7.0 → 7.04
Thanks very much! I will take a look a bit later.;)) But in essence, the current BIOS will only recognise the next sensible BIOS to upgrade to? I mean the next step, so to speak…
Yeah, my BIOS is old as hell. I only updated it in late 2017 or 2018 that I am guessing…
V3.30 needs to be installed next. After downloading you’ll need to extract the zip file and copy X370TC3.30 to the root of the flash drive. If it still doesn’t recognize I’d try a smaller flash drive and double check that it’s formatted as FAT32.
Is this the site you’re downloading from? And are you using the ‘Instant Flash’ feature?
The beta BIOS in this thread enables Ryzen 5000 series CPU support. Since you’re on a 3800x I would not recommend installing a beta version unless there is a specific feature or fix in the release notes that you are needing.
Further to this, at least for my x470 taichi it specifically says NOT to upgrade to the beta bios versions supporting ryzen 5000 if you have a 2000 series.
I believe it removes support for 1000 and 2000 series CPUs.
Yup. Just confirming that if you don’t need to upgrade to a beta bios, its crazy. Especially in this case as there’s a lot of boards out there that had to throw out compatibility with the original 2 ryzen processor families.
That’s why in my opinion with platforms that support multiple generations of cpu’s like AMD,
that boards should implement a dual bios solution with a physical select switch.
Or just bigger bios chips of course.
But yeah that’s a cost thingy.
