Hi, I just builded my new PC and i have only one problem with it - motherboard dosent detect my HD 6770. I already updated BIOS to 1.60, check card on another PC (it works), and i checked PCI-E with different card (8800GT is detected).
I managed to get ATI detected only once! It was after I replaced tested 88GT. I installed drivers for it, but unfortunately BIOS was set to Onboard Graphics because 8800GT got artifacts.
So I know PCI-E x16 works fine, and HD 6770 is also fine... What's wrong then? I have no idea what to try next...
There is no opiton in BIOS to disable integrated graphics. But I dont think its a problem.
My spec:
Mobo: ASRock Fatality H87 Performance
CPU: i5 4570
RAM: 2x4GB 1600MHz
GPU: HD 6770
PSU: XFX Core 550
Have you tried the 2nd pcie slot?
If it detected once then it should detect again unless there is a hardware fault or the contact points on the card are dirty or the pcie slot is intermittently faulty.
I found out, that if I set PCI-E to work in Gen1 Mode it detects Radeon with no problem at all.
And also if I plug it, set PCIE to gen3, the pc will turn on with no screen from card (only card connected to monitor). Leave it so it can go to Windows and after few minutes of black screen you TURN OFF and after few sec TURN ON your PC. Now magicly you have screen on your card in main PCIE x16...
But I think its a temporary solution. People had same problem with HD 7850 and ASRock/Gigabyte Z77 mobos...
Still waiting for respons from ASRock Tech Support, since I want to buy GTX 770 and I dont want same thing to happen.
I'm still testing this solution.
Yeah fingers crossed they can pump out a BIOS update to fix that issue. Damn what a pain.
Yeah, I had the same issue with the Z87 chipset on Asrock. Its the fact that your card isnt completely compatible with Gen3 or the UEFI. You should be able to run in Gen3 in PCIe slot 2, which will cause no performance loss.
My Sapphire 7950 didnt work in slot 1, but my MSI 7950 did. So weird.
yea, I think you are right. Just weird that newer HD 6770 is not supported but old 8800GT is.
Anyway I tested it on PCIE2 - turning off and on, restarting, hibernate. It seems stable, so I think the method with Gen3 and turning on -> off -> on worked.
About that PCIE4 (second slot), are you sure the performance will not drop? In manual it says speed of it is x4.
ps. I had problem with that HD 6770 on my previous PC, when I first plugged it in. When starting PC, it would try to boot 6-8 times and then boot... I had to update BIOS to fix it. Hope its going to be better with GTX 770 or R9 280x
The bottom red PCIe slot should be PCIe 2.0 x16 That is the same as a PCIe x8. Which will not cause any performance loss.
6770 is a 2.1 card isn't it? 3.0 should be disabled. I had to do this with my 6750, and z77 board. Ran it in the 3.0 slot no problem with 3.0 turned off.
