I listen to a lot of Skrillex, Krewella, EDM, Dubstep, Etc... Basically I am a huge bass head but I also need headphones that can be balanced for audio creation, are these a good choice? You can customize the bass on them to be heavy or neutral.
Learning how to use a eg and mix sound will save you the issues of whether one headset is better for this or that. Just find a set that has good respond in all ranges and mix to taste. :)
The Customs have good bass but can also sound good for other genres and can be more "clean" sounding if you so desire. The Sonys will have better bass and are more comfortable and liveable, but not as good as the customs at producing nuetral sound.
Oh and also, the XB500 are a good option if you're short on cash but you like the XB700. Whatever you do, please, please, PLEASE don't even think about the XB800 or the XB400.
Note that the XB700 can be had for $100 cheaper ($199) whenever there's a sale. It's not very often, but if you see 'em then I'd say snag 'em.
Beyerdynamic is quite a big name for audiophiles. They are very well made headphones. For that price, it's quite a good buy.
Other brands i would suggest to look at are Sennheiser(one of the best in the metal community, heavy trebles and heavy bass), i personally use the HD595 which are great for Metal, and i do listen to tons of electronic music as well.
Audio Technica are REALLY good for bass.
Sony you can't go wrong, very well made and good drivers, they run a little on the flat side for me mainly because the treble isn't high enough for me.
Monster makes some pretty decent headphones as well, all my guitar cords and passthroughs are monster and they make very strong stuff, so i would trust their headphone line.
Well they're going to have similar sounds. The major difference is that it has a 250ohm impedance which means you'll get more vibrance with better audio and sound cards are kind of manditory to get the quality out.
Your headphone choice is a 16ohm so for lower quality audio it'll sound better IMO. It just depends on what your set up is. If it's for an iphone/ipod, they'll both be about the same. If you have a high end sound card or amplifier like an o2 dac, then the dt 880 will be far better.
If these are still on sale for $99 when you see this, buy them. They are astonishingly comfortable, even with glasses on, and they also have very nice bass with great audio spatiality. Not to mention, Beyerdynamic does not tell you the size of their drivers. For bass, size matters.
The M50s are more of a flat sound signature than bassy, they may have slightly recessed mids and more pronounced bass than neutral but that doesn't make them bass heavy.
On the other hand AT's Solid Bass lineup is a solid choice when it comes to bass heavy headphones with good overall sound signature. One thing to note though is that Audio Technica's X refresh of the Solid Bass lineup has yet to hit American shores.
have any one tried JVC Kenwood Victer stereo headphones HA-SZ2000, seen some videos of them and looked like they kill every thing in bass. Essentially a 55mm driver dedicated to low frequency . They actually called it a "Subwoofer" (a 30mm driver handles mids and highs), Double Bass reflex design using the "Kelton Method". look them up, only can order from japan.
