Are Quantum LTO6 drives just re-badged IBM drives?

I’m looking at getting an LTO6 tape drive for offline backups. I see that the Quantum ones are a lot cheaper than IBM ones. Are they the same drive? They seem to have the same model number, e.g. 3580 H6S is both a Quantum and IBM part number.

How compatible are they? Can you put the IBM firmware on Quantum drives, for example? And will all the IBM software work with them? The IBM stuff seems to be the best.

Quantum sold LTO-6 drives from both IBM and HP (rebranded).

If the LTO drive is dark black plastic rectangle with a big blue eject button, it’s an IBM drive:

If the LTO drive has a lot of vents/slots cut out of the plastic, it’s an HP drive:
1000×1000 81.1 KB

Thanks, that’s great info. Do the IBM ones work with an the IBM software/drivers, do you know?
