I’ve always been one to be very interested in ideas and philosophy. I’ve recently listened to a couple of podcasts that have me very interested in the intersection of technology with philosophy and psychology. So I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone else here has any thoughts they’d like to share or can share some related books/media in the… psycho-philosi-tech sphere.
I’m super curious if anyone here has any experience with these ideas, especially if you’ve worked in Silicon Valley! Is this all pretty legit or is it overblown for the clicks? I’m also considering buying the Jung vs. Borg book, so let me know if you’ve read it!
Cal Newport discusses the underlying philosophies of Silicon Valley tech leaders with author and philosopher Emile Torres.
Jungian psychology confronts a “tech-driven collapse of the ecology of mind” with author Glen Slater.
A friend mentioned Jung vs. Borg to me a while back, so this caught my eye. I haven’t read it yet, but I like the idea of looking at AI through a psychological lens instead of just the usual tech debate.
Thanks for reaching out. It’s a pretty niche book, so it’s nice to hear from someone else who’s heard of it. I just watched a YouTube video with Glen where he mentions Jaron Lanier, whom I also find fascinating, as a major influence in the book, so I think I’m going to put it on my list to buy, although I’ve got other books on my to-read list ahead of it.
