You can find plenty of fire hazard stories with those adapters. Usually without much damage because people quickly localized source of fire. Unfortunately my PC is running 24/7 unattended so I don’t have such luxury. As such I’m legitimately worried that they may pose threat to house. I know there’s non-molded type of cable that is much safer but I couldn’t find such anywhere. Only molex → sata in this style. Did anyone come across such thing?
It may be helpful to mention where you may have heard this, in case someone wants to try to research it for you. Without any additional information, I am having trouble even theorising why the non-moulded variant would be safer than the moulded variant; is it not usually the wires that become a fire hazard in these kinds of products?
No, typically it’s bad quality mold so that wires are shorting inside mold due to solder leftovers and other contamination. With non-molded ones wires just slot into individual plastic sockets so there’s less room for error.
