Any good free fps games?

I might add that my comparison is not to anything recent, it's from my two+ years of playing the game. It is improving, yes, but it isn't what it used to be.

It's mostly changed for the best. This game should be held as an exemplar of how to treat your games. It's been around long enough to where normal devs try to cash in on a sequel. They just release awesome big updates. This game needs to be more famous.

IF you want to rage at the designers of the game:

Warface
Blacklight: Retribution

if you don't mind going third person, Warframe is actually a good shooter; just imagine Destiny without the Activision BS. It's a fair f2p, everything you can insta-buy you can craft it, you can gain the premium currency without spending a dime, and it has a nice story, universe and character design

Dear god... Do people still even PLAY tribes?
I had followed Tribes Ascend for the longest... but only got to build my PC this year. i was told no one plays it.

Yeah, people seem to still play Tribes. Problem is, it's hard to get into because of the movement and how the game is in general.

huh... cool. can't be that difficult to learn. just have to get the timing down for skiing.

i had tribes areal assault on ps2, lol
jetpack love
\ warframe tho, ive got alooooota time in that

I gotta agree with the other replies here, Dirty Bomb is a good bit of fun, though it can become kind of a grind to obtain new characters to play as.

Is Cube 2 still popular? It seems the population has died down quite a bit, I was only able to find instagib/ctf instagib servers.

What have you heard about Planetside 2 costing money? The game is completely free, though you can pay for more currency to unlock better gear, but it's not necessarily pay to win as in game currency is obtained rather quickly.

Project Reality

I thought it costed money per month to play (or used to)?? Well at least it changed for the better (for the consumer) I suppose.

It's slowly dying a painful death, but the European following is a bit bigger that the North American one. There will usually be 1-2 InstaCTF servers full, along with a few other random servers with a few people on.

Dirty bomb is a lot of fun but there's very little content at the moment (only 5 maps I think) so you'll probably get bored after about 15 hours play time or so. Then again it's still in beta so it'll get better.

EDIT: Also Fistful of Frags which is amazing

Nope, never costed a dime, I played it at launch. You might be thinking of the original Planetside which was subscription based.

I have to say Planetside 2. I started playing almost 2 years ago and what keeps me hooked is just the experience, huge battles up to 96+ vs 96+ with tanks and aircraft bombarding with squad and platoon leaders screaming orders in the constant tug of war for the capture point. The game being a f2p naturally has slower progression than say battlefield but it is just fine, the starting weaponry is just as good as the 1000 cert weapons.

This game is most definitely not pay to win, micro transactions come from the store page in terms of camos and the only weapons that can ONLY be purchased with real cash are golden and platinum variants of guns.

The only reason somebody might be turned off is poor performance or entering the dedicated community who are very skilled.

The community are very friendly and I have had some unmatched fun in that game and for that I cant recommend anything else in terms of f2p FPS.
