I watched a bit of Inuyasha a few years ago and I quite enjoyed what little of it I saw, so I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for anime to watch?
I know there has been a few threads about this already, but since I have no idea about anime I thought I should make another. Also where would you recommend going to watch/buy anime? I live in the UK which may be a limiting factor to finding stuff like DVD's etc..
You can watch tons of stuff for free (legally) on Crunchyroll even in the UK apparently. If you liked Inuyasha you might like Noragami, but I don't know where you could get it in the UK. The site my anime list is great for finding information on shows, you can peruse their top rated shows and see if something looks interesting: http://myanimelist.net/topanime.php
Depends on the genres you like. Here are some that I enjoyed:
Cowboy Bebop (+ movie) Dragonball + Dragonball Z Naruto + Naruto Shippuden (there are a lot of fillers) One Piece (also some fillers) Non non Biyori Nisekoi (fake Romeo & Juliet) Dennou Coil (augmented reality) Arakawa under the Bridge (rich, ambitious guy ends up living under a bridge) Ichigo Machimaro Moyashimon (guy can see bacteria) Welcome to the N.H.K. (NEET tries to overcome his social anxiety and paranoia) Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san (demons as lakais) Tonagura (childhood love turns out to be a pervert) Mikakunin de Shinkoukei (arranged marriage comedy) Seitokai Yakuindomo (girls being the perverts) My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU (pessimistic, cynical guy forced to help other students) Hyouka (lethargic guy solves mysteries in his school) Gin no saji (everyday life as an agriculture student) K-ON! (highschool band) Barakamon (calligraphy artist city boy send to small island) Soul Eater (hunting witches and demons)
I would start out with Stein:Gate. It has a really good story. Then I would suggest Blue Exorcist and Strike the blood if you like demon style stories.
Blast of tempest is also good. A take on Shakespeare story telling.
Noein and Elfen lied if you want to purchase anime. I haven't found a streaming site that shows these.
Blood+, The black brothers good vampire stories.
Onime is good if you like perverted anime.
Fate/stay Fate/night watch them in that order. good battle art.
Death note. One of the best crime animes.
If you like MMO games you may like Sword art online, log horizon, Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon, .hack\
1) Steins Gate: Great character driven anime. There isn't a whole lot of action in this one, but it has cool concepts, an outstanding plot, and dynamic characters with interesting back stories. Probably some of the best English voice acting I've heard in an anime.
2) Attack on Titan: Amazing action sequences, breathtaking animation, interesting characters (some of them), and a unique concept as well. What's not to love?
3) Knights of Sidonia: I really enjoyed the first season of this anime for setting up an interesting world in the distant future. Humans have long since left Earth and are a space colony now that are in a constant battle against an alien force that they don't understand. Not the most original idea, but the action sequences are jaw dropping and the actions characters take have serious consequences, often leading to death. (Note that season 2 throws this all out the window and becomes a more cookie cutter anime :( )
4) Code Geass: It has some cheesy voice acting at times, but Code Geass has an interesting plot with massive battles, interestingly designed mechs, interesting questions on morality, plus the whole 'world domination' thing.
5) Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ok fine, I really like mechs. However, this anime is a lot more psychological, (with cool mech fights too) with issues such as self desire vs. the good of the group, depression, the hedgehog's dilemma, etc. Really makes you think.
Kind of an offshoot, I know anime is a Japanese thing but I was kinda curious if anyone knows of some good ones in Mandarin? Need to practice my Chinese...
Most people that are brand new to (good)anime get into it via Death Note. There are alot of good recommendations posted already, but I'd rather recommend some good distinctive directors in the industry, and my favorites from them, With these guys you're pretty much guaranteed to get a Masterpiece.
Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion, or NGE, and End of Evangelion)
Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, make sure to watch the english dub.)
Mamoru Oshii (Famous for Ghost in the Shell, but I like Jin-Roh much better)
Hayao Miyazaki (The most famous man in the industry, My personal favorites are The Wind Rises and Princess Mononoke)
Yoshitoshi Abe (This man is very skilled in making unique trippy experiences, I.E. Serial Experiments Lain)
Yoshihiro Togashi (Not a director, a mangaka, but he has created some of the best shonen stories around, Hunter x Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho are definitely worth watching)
My biggest recommendation would be to watch an anime you would be most interested in personally, because taste is very subjective in the anime community; something somebody else likes may be horrible in your eyes.
I could list a bunch of stuff, but it would be a lot of what has already been listed..So have you seen any other anime you like..Do you prefer more adult anime??What tv/movies do you like..I don't want to list what I like, I like to much and my feelings change..I want to list what you might like..My goal is to give you something that is great to you..That way you will never leave the animes..jk
Oh wait I will list this since it has not been mentioned..Monster
And as always HERE is my anime list..If you want to dig through it..It is not complete constructed from memory and some lazy updates here and there..
