If you have a (last 2 generations) Nexus phone or google device you can run the android beta program (i didnt know this existed) and get access to early builds.
Apparently N supports wifi calling on EE in the UK, so im wondering if theres other supported networks.
Some notable features include
multi-window
drag and drop between multi window
apparently its faster
new notifications and updated notification shade with better context
night mode and brightness adjustment based on locaiton.
I like owning Nexus devices over other devices simply because the updates and how much you can play with the software / roms.
I'm thinking about picking up a Nexus 9 cause i slightly cracked my Nexus 7 and the digitizer is finnicky now. It sucks i can't use the Nexus 7 for this. But what sucks is i'm sure Nexus 7 will get the Android N (Nutella)
I hesitated too long and when I wanted to buy one they were sold out everywhere :/ The price of the Nexus 9 is pretty high, imo. It's also about time for Google to release a new Nexus 7. And I sure hope it will be named something else, not Nutella. Nougat would fit too and it wouldn't have to be a brand name.
I'm pretty familiar with Android Developer Previews. I ran all versions of the L and M previews on my Nexus 5 when I had it. They usually (except for M Dev.Prev. #1) work well enough to use on a phone for a few days, and it's pretty fun to be able to play around with the new features and provide feedback. I need to update my ROM anyways, so I've been considering installing the N preview on my 5X. I haven't read into it too much, but I might give it a go just share the experience with all you fine folks.
N is definitely a refinement over M. Lots of UI improvements and refinements. a bunch of subtle little features.
You can do almost everything from the notification share in responce to notifications. Application switching is just gold now.
Settings is more informative.
Split screen works quite well.
Unfortunately it looks like wifi calling on vodafone isnt working yet. Though ive read that you have to wait a day or two on EE for it to activate so well see if its the same for vodafone.
I've been running the preview build since it dropped on my Nexus 6. The new features are really nice; I've got one app that's broken and some minor performance issues but other than that it's been great. I'm glad they're doing OTA updates too; that's much easier than flashing a new system image every time.
I've been using it a couple of days on my main phone and it's been stable, but I'm not ready to call it daily driver ready yet. I'm going to give it a few more days and see how it acts before I decide if I'm going to keep it long term. If you've got any must have apps let me know and I'll see if I can test them for you.
Probably the main thing I am curious about is the camera and Bluetooth connectivity. I use my camera daily with moto nexus 6 and have crashes every other day. Bluetooth sometimes needs hard reset to connect to remembered devices. Seems to me that Android M just couldn't seem to get these services to work as well as they did on K IMO.
I've been using it for the past day or so. My favorite addition is the night mode, it's so much easier on the eyes. The multi-window feature is definitely useful, though - I can listen to music on YouTube and do other stuff on my phone. That's probably something that bothered me the most when using my phone in the past.
Oh yeah, and scaling (display size), FINALLY. I don't know if it was there in the past, if I missed it, but now the icons don't have to be literally a quarter of the screen.
Somthing istumbled on is it you play YouTube in firefox. It'll keep playing when you minimise it. Kind of annoying as the only reason you can I think is so they can show it as a paid feature
