Yeah I can still get many versions of the Phenom II series here in Germany. For example Phenom II X4 945, 955, 965, 1045T and 1055T. Everything else is either sold out or sold as used / refurbished.
Which one would you recommend for GTA IV? The AMD Phenom II X4 965, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T @ 2,8 GHz or the AMD FX-6300? My only options right now, Sadly.
Its a bit hard to get specific benchmarks across the board for that game, but in general the FX-6300 does significantly better in games than the PII X6 1055T. I would assume that to be the case for GTA IV as well, but I haven't checked.
The rare game will work better on the PII X6 because it actually makes use of 5-6 floating point processor at once, and while both are considered to be "6 core processors", the PII x6 has 6 floating point processor, where the FX-6300 only has 3, though per core, the FX-6300 is significantly faster.
You see, that´s exactly what´s confusing me. I´ve done a little research as to how many threads / cores GTA IV actually utilizes. It seems as if it takes whatever your CPU is offering.
For example the CPU usage on a Phenom II X4 965 is at around 75 % when things like view distancy and vehicle density are maxed out. On a Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3,2 GHz. the usage per core is at around 50%.
This is just disappointing, seriousely. Not many decent choises on the AMD side ... . I could get a new 1100T but ONLY if I buy a pre-build computer, lol. The only good component there is the CPU, the rest just sucks.
When it comes to the FPU I wonder whether they´re faster / perform better than those of the Ph II.
Are there any benchmarks results which could clarify this? Is there a benchmark test which determines the performance of FPUs?
Honestly, any build between $600-$800 (or $900 depending) I end up recommending the FX6300, the next up being the i5 2500K/3570K which is, as far as I'm concerned, the highest chip you can buy that makes sense for gaming.
I'd bet at the same clock speed, the FPU between the PII and the FX chip isn't much different, but that would be to disregard the FX seriously high OC potential. An FX6300 OC'd to 4.7GHz is gonna wipe the floor with the PII chips and anything below it's price point in gaming and in most applications.
Hello and thanks for your advice & help. I´ve looked up some gameplay videos with the both, the FX- 6100 and Ph II X6 1045T running GTA IV. I couldn´t find GTA IV gameplay videos with the FX-6300 so I figured that the 6100 would pose a good comparison
Both chips run this game fine. As expected the Ph X6 1045T breaks no sweat running this game but the FX-6100 actually impressed me. That Ph II X6 1045T is € 24 / $ 30 cheaper though. ^^

though I think that those graphics cards are a little slow.

Surprising how well that GT240 handles the game.

This last video is probably the best. FX-6100 and an HD 7770. His mic or something is broken though.
