AMD fanboy needs help with Intel build

My buddy is trying to take the leap from Apple to a home-built desktop. He doesn't really game, but he does a lot of Photoshop and things of that sort. What would be a good CPU? Also, Nvidia with cuda cores is better for Photoshop  too right??

i7 3770K with a GTX670 or  GTX680.

or socket 2011 with i73820 with GTX670 or GTX680.

both are good options. adobe producs do indeed a better job on Nvidia cuda cores.

grtz Angel ☺

This is a good CPU... Budget?

and ofc if he can afford it the socket 2011 i7 3930K hexacore is also nice, but i think overpriced and overkill

i would say: the best choice in my opinnion.

Intel i7-3770K

Msi Z77 Mpower mobo

Evga GTX670 or GTX680. <--- if he can afford it the 4GB versions.

He's not sure how much he wants to spend. I was going to put together a few builds for him and see what he liked. Thanks for the help. I prefer AMD products, but i've heard that Intel is better for Photoshop, Etc.

I also prefer AMD, but adobe products run better on Nvidia cards cause of the cuda cores.

And intels i7 per core performance is better then AMD cause of theire HT.

So that would probably be a reason that Intel setups just do better job in Adobe. I readed somewhere that calculations in adobe photoshop cs4 are single threaded, so that could  explain why intels perform better. i dont know if that thing is true, but i readed it somewhere on a benchmark site.

maybe an idea to wait Hasswell will be launched  soon. that could be intressting in prices.

Damn. the AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ Eight-Core Desktop Processor is $90 cheaper than the Intel Core i7-3770 3.4GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 Quad-Core Desktop Processor.

Also is Windows 7 ultimate or home better? I dont see how one would be better, but my buddy says ultimate is better. Im essentially building the same rig they did in the "honey badger" build. Just a different mobo, ram, and psu.

The 8350 isn't as good for editing situations.

On this build I wanted to take advantage of an mSATA port on the back side. Would he benefit from a 32GB SSD for a cache or something for Photoshop?

you still go better with an i7 3770K  cause like i said above, the per core performance of intel is better. and adobe products just runn better on intel setups.

about windows 7 home or ultimate,  that doesnt make much sence, i think maybe windows 7 professional will be the nicest option.

i have ultimate x64 myself ☺

Will he benefit from two GPU's for photoshop??

Its always nice to have the best so if you wanna get ultimate or pro go for it but as far as home use and the average user is concerned Home Edition will suffice.

Im not exactly an expert on Nvidia and Photoshop products but unless hes doing some really freakin huge resolution edits hes not going to see any benefit from a 2nd GPU

i would go for a single GTX680. 4GB edition EVGA

i think id go with intel and nvidia for this build solely because as you said he likes photoshop and that will deliver the best experience for him with that.

otherwise photoshop runs fine on my amd build everything loads pretty much instantly apart from when you first run it takes like 5 seconds to start up or whatnot

so the difference will be in the seconds/milliseconds

if to you that justifies the price, go for it
