AMD Epyc 8004 - BIOS Update for Gigabyte ME03-CE0

New bios out today named F05.

FYI
When updating, my onboard 10Gb/s NICs where renamed.
Resulting in Proxmox Web GUI at port 8006 and SSH stopped working. No response to ping.
Had to use Server IPMI, login by console mode and do an:
ip a
write down new naming of nic
correct by
nano /etc/network/interfaces

The bios seem to have a few new lines in certain settings, while removing the 12 or so preset categories of Performance tuning.

Did your BIOS firmware version update in the MegaRAC DB?

I was coming from F02 and it looks like BIOS update to F05 was successful, but I didn’t see it update to F05 on the dashboard after getting out of EFI shell. I did shut down after the update and even powered off at the wall to kill IPMI.

If yours did update, I’d be curious what version of the AMI AfuEfi64 tool you used.

Scratch that – it worked. I just had to flash a second time. Didn’t see any difference in output from the tool or process. So who knows.

Do you have any sata drives connected to your MCIO headers? I’m not 100% sure, but I think the BIOS update killed all three of my MCIO headers. I had a couple of drives connected and not picking them up at all since the update. Have alternated cables etc.

Hi, I’m not using the MCIO headers at all, so no experience there. But as described above my NICs were renamed, did you checked if the SATA drives have been renamed by your OS, and just need remapping?

No, they’ve completely dropped. And I can’t seem to access via any of the three headers since updating. I’ve tried multiple cables, different drives etc. Also can’t seem to get the board back to F02. So, I’m kind of stuck atm.

NOt detected or visable at BIOS level then…Strange.
The BIOS version F01 that is available, does not work either?

If you are sure the cable, the disks work as the should on other boards, I would reach out to Gigabyte and ask for advise and/or access to previous BIOS version you used.

I couldn’t get F01 to flash at all. Just hangs after running the flash tool. Also couldn’t get the board to factory reset back to F02. I did reach out to GB last night over their support email after spending 4 or so hours trying to get it to work. Pretty over it at this point.

I managed to connect with someone over reddit who has faced the same issue since upgrading to F05.

That is a very annoying feature of proxmox, renaming NICs, they should just stick to the MAC adress, before doing any renaming. Had lots of instances where Proxmox decided to “help” only to mess up my configuration.
