for gaming, virtual machining(i don't know if that's a thing, but it is now), some photoshop editing, and general computing would it be better to go with:
fx-6300 and a 990fx board
fx-8320 and a 970 board
FX-8320 + 970, unless you need the extra PCI-e or SATA bandwidth (I think those are the main differences off the top of my head). It sounds like you are going to leverage those extra pair of cores.
That money's better put into more cores than a fancy mobo.
