AMD Athlon X4 II 760K vs A8-6600K

Hi am selling my A10-7700K and wanting to know what was a better chip.

The A8-6600K ( 3.9 Ghz ) or the athlon 760K ( 3.8 Ghz)

The price difference is only $6, so price isn't an issue.

Thanks

Arnav VR

They're very similar.

If you're going to have a dedicated graphics card there's no reason to go for the A8.

Surely, the A10-7700k is the best of them all? Why sell that to sidegrade/downgrade?

tbh they are pretty much identical. I'd go for the apu,you never know when the gpu might fail and you have to wait god knows how much until a new one arrives. If the gpu dies you still have the graphics from the apu as backup. and it's good enough for low detail gaming and w/e

The a10-7700k is more superior than the a8-6600k and the athlon x4 760k, because the a10-7700k has an integrated GPU - with more shader cores than the a8-6600k's, which means the a10 7700k's GPU is faster than the a8-6600k's, whilst the Athlon x4 760k has no integrated GPU. The three CPUs perform identically despite a difference by hundreds of megahertz. If I were you, I would just save my money and be contented or buy a new GPU like an AMD R7 265. Here's a comparison between the A10-7700k and the A8-6600k: http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/389/AMD_A10-Series_A10-7700K_vs_AMD_A8-Series_A8-6600K.html

If you whant better you are going to need to change platform (AM3+/1150/1155)

Can the OP give more info? Why are you selling the 7700k and why change to a different CPU? Are you adding a discreet GPU? I'm assuming you are if you're considering the 760K which is a pure stand alone CPU (no iGPU) - in which case I would say just keep it. It has basically the same CPU performance as the 760K.

In terms of CPU performance, these 3 are all very similar - the A8-6600k being the weakest.

I don't really care for the igpu, since i bought a 7950 from Gnrl Kitty off of the B/S/T forums. So i wanted to get better CPU performance.

@ cooperman I am not willing to buy a new mobo

@ berserker are you sure???

Could you guys give me an estimate for the 7700K? It has never been heavily oc'd and I have only used it for 2 months

The 7700K is the one of the later implementations of the same family of processors. The 760K and A8-6600K are earlier units. You're throwing away a better iGPU and HSA for absolutely no performance change. Just grab a dedicated GPU.

@ Arnav VR - You can't get a better CPU for this platform (FM2+), at least not any time soon. You already have  one of the best for the socket, so don't change it for something older and less-capable. It'll run just fine with a 7950 and when HSA is more widely implemented, you'll be glad you have a Kaveri APU on-board.

If you want a little more performance, install a better CPU cooler like a hyper 212 evo and overclock it.

If you have a HD7950 anything on the FM2/+ platform is going to bottleneck/slow the performance of the 7950

why not sell your current mobo + cpu, and pickup a better cpu + mobo, for that gpu?

It should run just fine in most games, won't hold it back too much. With Mantle and the latest Catalyst drivers, CPU overhead in gaming is being reduced/optimized. Posted this in another thread, but here it is again; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWans5FU4cU

@ MEC-777 Ok ya I might think about that

@ Mistery Angel Won't that be like $50 more expensive??

@ Mystery Angel If I can sell my mobo ( MSI A78M-E35) and my apu for $170 I will think about getting an FX-6300 and this mobo

If you make the jump to an FX CPU (AM3+ socket), don't get anything less than a 970 chipset motherboard. The board you have selected there is not very good. It only supports up to 1333mhz ram which shows how old it is.

This is a much better AM3+ motherboard: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga970aud3p It costs a little more but is worth every penny and will handle the FX-8320/8350 if you choose to upgrade later on.

If you can't fit a full ATX motherboard in your case, then you should stick with your current motherboard and CPU or you'll have to make the switch to Intel.

@ mec-1777 I can't fit a full size atx only m-itx and m-atx

@ mec-1777 if i made the switch to intel, wouldn't the i3-4130 be slower than what i already have

i know it has hyperthreading, but can that make as much performance as a quad core??
