Howdy Folks,
Checking in this morning with a problem. It would seem that I need a BIOS upgrade CPU. I could be wrong but let me spill the build details and the troubleshooting steps I have taken.
The build uses an ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus (WIFI) motherboard and a 3rd gen 5000 series Ryzen 5800x CPU. Hope I got all the keywords in there. Right now , the Crucial ram is not in there (it’s still in the mail). I’m using G.skill G.SKILL F4-3600C18D-32GVK for this test. It’s not on the qualified ram list for this motherboard, however I don’t expect the ram to actually be the problem, but I’m not ruling out the possibility. The Crucial ram also isn’t on the qualified ram list.
I suspected I wouldn’t be able to get it to post because it’s basically well known that motherboards need a BIOS update to support the new 5000 series Ryzen CPUs. My motherboard box had the Ryzen 3000 desktop ready badge. But I’ve had most of my gear setting on my table for about a week and I wanted to get the build started.
So I put everything together outside the case and when I fired it up, I got the ASUS TUF logo on the monitor with the “Press F2 or delete to enter BIOS” text, however, the system will do nothing else. It remains responsive to ctrl-alt-del for reboot and the orange DRAM led on the motherboard lights up. I proceeded to try different ram slots and different ram sticks to try to get it going, but to no avail. No matter what I do with the ram, that dram light stays orange.
Since I have been anticipating this problem since I chose the parts, I decided to buy a Ryzen 2200G on ebay, one that wouldn’t ship from China. Unfortunately, it turns out USPS is delayed anyway and the tracking info hasn’t been updated in over a week. Ah well, I’m hoping the BIOS is the real problem as suggested in this ltt forum thread and I’m stoked to get it updated and running, soon as I can update it.
I wanted to post this as another info source for the issue, as AMD says it’s CPU loan program is for users with 400 series motherboards. And up-to-date info is somewhat scarce.
Oh pictures? I like this case!
And inside you’ll see this is a weaker power supply, which is temporary, the 850 is coming from China.
I will post more about getting it running once I have done that.
