Am4 platform

Does any1 know if the new am4 platform is gonna support aio coolers from am3+? I wanna know because I'm starting to buy my zen build slowly and just need to pick an aio and a few other things... so far I'm gonna get a nzxt noctis 450 case with 2400mhz ram ddr4 with low timings aswell as reusing my 390x+ 850 supra nova psu with a nzxt hue + gonna pimp it out with noctua fans Linus tech colors... can't really find any nice quiet black/ red fans... that are quiet... but this is all gonna be built off a zen platform so I'm still gonna figure out what mobo I'm gonna use so... it's gonna be a sick build I hope

AM4 hasn't been released yet, so it could be the same or it could be different .... If you want to know for sure you're going to have to wait till it launches (whenever that is)

I've heard it's around January... hopefully we find out more... soon

the socket is almost the same size (just more pins), they might still work.

am3 socket size around 40mm

leak says am4 is also 40mm

I believe am3+ compatible coolers will also be am4 compatible.

I hope so.kuz I'm gonna try to get a nzxt 280mm kraken

Just from the pictures, I would say yes.

most likely yes.

Looks like it may not be, notcua is making an am4 socket "upgrade" for their existing coolers. Supposedly due to the extra traces coming from the socket. Obviously it's not for sure, but the possibility is there.

(For refrence)

I think AMD may have said it will be compatible with AM3+ coolers, but I do recall Noctua and NZXT talking about adapters for their coolers. So maybe?

Kuz I just bought a 280mm kraken x61 soooo I hope so

Some rumors state, that it will have Intel style square mounting, but I guess they are different size, although I do remember amd stating it will be compatible with AM X and FM X mounting mechanisms...
I guess nobody knows...

Is it gonna be smaller or bigger then the 8350?

Nothing official yet but,
there have been reports that the through board cooler mounting holes have changed from 96 x 48 mm of AM3+
to 90 X 54 mm of AM4.

first backplate image and probably source of dimensions

A new image of an ASUS A320M-C motherboard from a nearly plan view has appeared.

I thought I would scale this image and check the dimensions.

This is based on the assumption that the pin spacing is 1mm, giving 38mm across the 39 pins.

The 90 x 54 is with in the margin of error of the scaling but not knowing how the back plate was measured 90 x 54.5mm maybe more accurate.

HP has a custom board with square mounting pattern.
Chip is still 40 x 40 mm.

Hey yeah so OC3D confirmed back in december that the cooler mounting dimensions would in fact be 90 x 54 mm's, here's the article:
https://www.overclock3d.net/news/cpu_mainboard/amd_s_am4_socket_will_not_be_compatible_with_old_cpu_coolers/1

Yes I started digging into it the weekend before OC3D post and found the first backplate info, The alphacool info and two coolingi options stating AM4 support. I was trying to corroborate the actual dimensions as on the web it is often said once, repeated often then assumed to be fact.

Some new picks of the 370 MB's
