All ram not recognized? Motherboard Issue?

So I bought 16gb of Kingston DDR3 RAM for my computer a while back and after installation, all was well. A few months later, my motherboard (Asus P8Z77-V PRO) would not recognize any more than 8gb of ram.

I tested every slot on the motherboard, all worked. I tested every dimm, all worked. I tested every configuration of two dimms, all worked, whenever a third or fourth dimm was entered, it would not be recognized.

I inspected the CPU pins on the motherboard, non of them were bent (at least I didn't see any).

I've tried many combinations of voltages for the ram to see if that would help, no luck.

It appears as if there are a few different lists for this motherboard, some showing compatibility, others not. Like I said before, all 16gb worked before, now I cannot get over 8gb.

Thanks ahead for any responses.

Is the RAM appearing within the BIOS? If not, this is a motherboard issue. Try updating the BIOS

Is it appearing in the BIOS but not the OS? If so what OS are you running?

yes indeed we need to know where your ram is not appearing.

If the bios shows 16GB but in windows only 8GB, then its most likely that windows max memory at startup is set to 8GB.

You can easaly chance that wenn going to Msconfig > bootup tab > Advanced options: uncheck the max memory check box.

It is not recognized in the BIOS, even after an update. I figured it was a motherboard issue and I placed an RMA request but I didn't send in the mobo because I didnt know what to cover the cpu socket with (lost the cover).

Win 8 Pro btw.

well it seems a bit strange to me, if every single dimm works, and every single dimm slot works, but all 4 together dont work?

Did you boaght the ram as a quad kit? or are they diffrent modules?

It could be a connection in the board that is bad.

I had to send of one sabertooth 990fx for the 3rd and 4th memory Slot was bad

It would show up in the bios but wasn't accessible by anything.

Asus promptly repaired it and sent it back.

As I tell my friends no matter how great the product is....

Technology always will have a speed bump of some sort. Bad batch. Faulty parts. Recalls or just a bad connection.

It was a quad kit. Every dimm/slot works fine, even with two, but no more than two work together. I think it would be safe to assume that there is a problem with voltage delivery to the slots. But idk. Any suggestions for covering the cpu socket without the cover?

Anti-static bag will be your best bet, protecting the socket from objects and static. Then a box + bubble wrap over/around it

Thank you, I will go ahead with another RMA request and hopefully this issue will be sorted out. Ill let you know how it turns out.
